Blade Screen Protector Template

Hi there

Thanks Paul for the excellent review which led me to eventually buy this excellent device. As I'm sure many of you have noticed, there aren't really any Screen Protectors for the San Francisco that are specifically designed for it.

The other day I ended up buying a generic Zagg Invisible Shield from Carphone Warehouse. These are 10.2cm x 6.4cm and fit many devices including phones, cameras and PSPs etc. I hadn't thought through how to fit the protector at the time, not realising that the San Francisco glass has a rounded-rectangular shape and is not simply a rectangle (making it difficult to create a shield).

After a horrible first attempt at trying to fit a rectangular shield across the whole shield, i ended up trying to create a template so that I could cut it out. I figured I'd register up here and share it with you guys:

It's made to fit on an A4 page so you can easily print it out.

Here's how I used it:

1) Buy a generic screen protector that's big enough. I bought the generic Zagg Invisible Shield from Carphone Warehouse

2) Download and print out the template, and use paper clips to firmly secure the screen protector so it's entirely behind the lines on the template. I held up my paper to the light so I could see if it was fully covering the screen size.

3) Use scissors to cut around the template while the screen protector is firmly behind it.

4) The speaker area was a little more tricky, and despite my best efforts I ended up cutting from the top of the screen protector rather than making a small pinch just for the speakers. Any suggestions for a good way to do this are welcome (i tried stuff like folding it over, and cutting but it didnt work too well)

5) Follow the instructions provided with the shield to apply it to your device. My Zagg Invisible Shield took several hours to settle and I left it to do that overnight.

The end result, for me, is a high quality screen protector (Zagg are well-known in this field) that fits very nicely onto my San Francisco. I would definitely reccomend people to buy the Zagg Invisible Shield, and they also give two shields inside incase you fudge up the first one like i did. I'm very pleased with the end result though I must admit the template is not perfect - I still find it's around 1mm too wide - but not enough to bother me.

I'm enclosing all my raw files as attachments if you wish to improve the template, hopefully to perfect it.

edit: I just realised this board makes a fatass thumbnail for the image. I reccomend you use the PDF or DOC instead, as those are sized to A4 better than the raw image. The image is only provided if you wish to experiment.

Sharp precision scalpel should make short work of the speaker hole. Good idea though.
