Hi jt3009

I just hacked into your phone and it told me that you had your phone since the 12th of Jan 2003. :)

Doing that I prob. did more in research than the person who wrote that article. Ignore these people who write these news on the web. I have yet to find a credible news source. They dont exist. And hackers targetting a .00001 percent market of SPV users are going to find its a very small market to attack.

I _think_ the decertification method we use does not allow access to the privelidged area of the phone.

After reading some of Steve's (Baltimore) posts this might need to be (re)confirmed.

ehm, i would think that the number of "cracked" SPV's are quite a lot bigger!! i base this on the number of ppl who have downloaded doom from my site, and that's only from my site, i don't know how many has downloaded from the mirrors

Yes, i'm aware that there probably is a handfuld of ppl with locked phones who has tried to download it , but still.....

oh Mr Boden,

I found a fatal bug with Doom, if you play it in a pub id middleboro it complete crashes the phone :) - I had to do a hard reset, wierd..but progress isnt without its faults.

As for hacking the people who put news out like that are usually those who dont have a clue about the phone or the software. Orange will love that sort of news though it "backsup" there argument.

Of course with time they will realise that if they want these new phones to be popular they will have to give customers an option to unlock thier phones, an option which could be set by the users at anytime in the settings menu possibly....im sure somthing like that will come in time.

Yes, like it will be possible to do with PALLADIUM security project.

NXNM > sorry to hear about your problem, i have looked at the sourcecode and found that the problem comes from playing in a pub that hasn't got a pinball machine, please ensure that the pub gets one ;-)

Yeah, i'm a pinball collector ;-)

True ... though my percentage actually refers to the number of SPV Users compared to other Cellphones being used out there. That number is VERY small. Hence to target it with Viruses, Attacks etc. makes no sense :)

Due to the long lead times that magazines work to and that fact that the unlocking was only done a few weeks ago I would be very surprised if anything to do with this has made it into print yet, magazines after all are hardly good for 'cutting edge' news.

Can you scan it or anything ?

I think it's rubbish, why would a hacker target SPVs when there are so many computers around the world?

For the same reason a "hacker" would target any other PC

Because 95% (guess) of SPV's are linked to the Orange network, meaning it is extremely easy to make calls etc and incur charges through an SPV, while many PC users only have their modem plugged in when required, or use ADSL/Cable/LAN...

Extremely easy ?

Surely a slight over exageration ?

even if someone did release a virus you would still have to download it and execute it on your phone--how long would it take for this to get back to the forum and im sure orange would come down quite heavy on the site that hosted/developed this virus.

^ errr, yeah, they'd be arrested, it is a criminal offence to create a virus AND release it.
