problem with email on Modaco Custom r3 rom

i am trying to set up my email account using the standard email app that comes on the Modaco r3 2.1 however it always force closes and gives me an error prompt "the application Email(processcom.android.email) has stopped unexpectedly.Please try again"

when i reverted back to the Orange stock 2.1 and selected the feature it was giving me a prompt "Validating number" where it fails everytime.

anybody have any ideas?

I have tried to setup gmail in the email app, and used exchange (setup in accounts/sync) in email. I didn't have any FC problem, but the EMail app was consuming a lot of CPU time every now and then (catched by watchdog)

I also had issues and used K-9 Email app found on the Android Market.

So much better!
