Guest krrrk Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 The few streaming threads i've seen don't seem to have much info. I know the Samsung phones with AllShare seem to be able to almost-flawlessly stream content over wifi from a local source (all I'm looking to do). Is there any way to get AllShare to work on a Streak? I've seen a DLNA apk floating around out there, but I'm pretty sure it's device specific to Samsungs. If thats out of the realm of possibilities, has anyone successfully gotten a setup like the one I mentioned? I just want to grab and watch .avi files anywhere in my house from my HTPC on my Streak. Still too early?
Guest mrmrmrmr Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 that's one important question that I'd like to figure out... how can we use the AllShare app on Streak ?
Guest Newcron Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 What has somewhat worked for me is the 'VLC Stream and Convert' which is free from the Market in conjunction with the VLC client running on your Media server (with the web interface enabled). It's not perfect and has some very annoying bugs, but this is the best solution I was able to find for this purpose. I'd really like to know if anyone can find something else that works better. The bugs: The menu won't show up in landscape, so you have to switch to portrait to browse your drive. So you switched to portrait, select the movie file, and when it's playing, it won't switch back to landscape. So you're stuck watching a movie in portrait orientation having the movie shown only at the top one third of the screen, which is kind of pointless considering the best feature of the Streak is the 5 inch screen. Additionally, after you're done watching a movie, you close and exit the app, and what do you find? All your other apps are now stuck in portrait orientation. You need to go to system panel (or similar app) to kill the VLC Stream and Convert app and then everything will turn back to normal.
