Guest Lord_Shaithis Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 So after trying the CM6 rom, I cannot go back to 2.1 (due to the speed), yet CM6 is no-where near ready for general use.....add in a dodgy usb port which will go completely soon and I am thinking of replacing the trusty Pulse :) Apart from the very pricey HTC Desire, what other smartphones are available with a Pulse (or larger) screensize that can run 2.2?
Guest sfaulds97 Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 Well im thinking about getting a HTC Wildfire it will run Froyo soon but it's a 3.2 inch screen but its a really good phone with HTC Sense. Hope that helps. :)
Guest Richard_Arkless Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) I would choose the orange san Francisco, its got a same size screen as the pulse but has a higher screen resolution so text looks much nicer on the screen plus have got a faster processor and more memory Im sure I read somewhere on that site that someone who had the zte blade (the real name of the san francisco) that has 2.2 Edited October 16, 2010 by Richard_Arkless
Guest WallOfSound Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 With Android 3.0 expected soon I'd try and hold out. Either you'll desperatly want a phone capable of running whatever new features it has or it'll force the price down of older devices.
Guest Simon O Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 The Orange San Francisco will definitely get a version of Froyo. I fully expect ZTE & Orange to release an official ROM for the device as the Chinese version of the phone already has froyo. Sadly the files we got cannot be used on the San Francisco due to some drivers not being compatible (the kernel must be re-compiled). And some people are planning to work on porting Cyanogenmod 6.
Guest ambrozija Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 If I was buying a phone right now, I'll go with some phone star as Desire, for ex. Pulse was/is nice android introduction (probably more, depending on your needs), and SanFran maybe follows the same line, but if you can afford it go with some all star phone!
Guest de_shepherd Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Looks like HTC have a new phone aimed at the Pulse/SF level http://www.reghardware.com/2010/10/18/htc_gratia/ Hopefully this is a sign that the "budget Androids" are moving from 240x320 screens to 320x480. Only states 2.1 at the moment though.

Hope that helps. :) The HTC Wildfire has a 3.2" screen but it is a very low res 240x320 and as a result looks terrible. The fonts on the homescreens are a blurry mess and you can can get very little text on screen when it comes to reading web pages etc. The low res also means that a fair number of applications are not compatible. San Fran is a much better option.

Plus being a HTC the community support and custom roms will overflow.
