Video Conversion Strategies

Hi all,

Firstly thanks to Paul et al for the mods - great work and I'll be sure to stick a few pennies in the jar when possible.

One thing that's hit me about moving from a Nokia 5800 to the Blade is that the current way I convert videos doesn't seem to work. They won't open in the stock videos app, and although they open in RockPlayer, they seem to run at ~15fps so blatantly aren't smooth. I currently use handbrake, try and limit the file sizes (100MB / 30 mins), use lower bitrate 96kbps AAC audio streams, avi file format, and try and maintain a res close to the 800 x 480 of the display. My SD card is a class 5 one.

So yeah, wondering what everyone's video conversion strategies are? What container/codec/audio/other settings should I use?

Use Video codec - H.264, AAC for audio and MP4 for container for the best chance of it working.

Using the iPhone Profile in Handbrake should work.

I think the only video supported native in Android is H.263, H.264 (in 3GP or MP4 container), MPEG-4 SP, AMR, AMR-WB (in 3GP container).

Would be good to know the best settings for sharpest/smoothest playback.

I've been experimenting with divx and find that (Rockplayer) it usually jitters after 30 seconds and lags out occasionally.

Will try H264...
