Guest thenext1 Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) Hello all, Last evening I was sitting next to a friend of mine in a pub, he's got a still-untouched Donut Liquid (2.000.17). We're on the same mobile operator. We put the phone one next to the other and he had 1 bar, instead I got 3 bars. I'm on Eclair 2.100.07. I'm on this issue since I upgraded to Eclair, when I noticed sometimes I couldn't make calls even with 2 bars. As for internet browsing, most of the time it works only with 3 or 4 bars. When it works with 2 bars, the phone's "lower back" heats up very quick. I was disappointed. I also tested the indicator bars while calling on bluetooth and going through an underpass where mobile coverage falters: the signal drops to 2 bars, the ongoing call ends, and then the signal disappears altogether. Now that I think of it, I think I have seen the single bar very rarely. I (perhaps maliciously) think this has been done by Acer in response to the growing interest of the public to signal loss issues when holding the phone certain ways, i.e. iPhone 4's most famous failure. Anyone on this? bye bye EDIT: I believe someone will come here and say "Eclair radio reception is better than Donut's!!1!one!" but I don't believe a word. I just flashed a new Android and radio firmware, and the radio fw is the sole responsible for the dB signal level being reported to Android. Edited October 16, 2010 by thenext1
Guest xaueious Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 (edited) My Acer Liquid works great. I don't even look at my signal bars. At all. Flash to a 4 series ROM like everyone else and enjoy life :) Edited October 17, 2010 by xaueious

Guest DasTisu Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 What's the difference Signal strength? Settings -> About phone ->Status = Signal strength
Guest thenext1 Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 What's the difference Signal strength? Settings -> About phone ->Status = Signal strength Didn't see, but since signal bars are calculated on the signal strength, I suppose his "REPORTED" signal strength was consequently lower.
