Hi guys.

Have had this phone forjustover a week now...

All been working great. MMS messages weren't being sent, but found out that was due to bad apn settings from the phone... Sorted that out, and all seemed fine...

However on Thursday night, I sent an sms to a friend, and just assumed it'd been delivered. However, hadn't heard back from him, so sent another sms. Just looking through though, and in the thread for his sms, I have a little envelope with a red L in a circle in both messages I'd sent. So, I sent one to his wife, and getting exactly the same... So, I thought I'd send one to my girlfriends phone to see whether it was doing the same. THe icon shows up briefly, then disappears, and gives the date/time message was sent underneath. Checking back, on the messages to my friend and his wife, there is not sent time/date...

Also, I'd sent one to my mum earlier this morning, and my sister yesterday, and all of these have the sent date/time...

So, why are the messages not being sent? Anything I can check/do?

For info, I'd originally flashed the modaco rom, and on Thursday, I flashed the Sebastion 404 rom... Could it be this rom???

Many thanks guys...

When you switch between custom ROM's it is best to wipe the data/factory & cache partitions to prevent any potential issues.

This can be done in Step 3 (in the Clockwork Mod recovery menu).

Do however - just to be safe backup first (Titanium Backup - free) will backup to your SDCard

I did do a clear of the cache and factory etc partitions when I flashed the rom. will try taking a backup later and reflash. See if it sorts out the problem...

OK, this is really weird...

I just deleted all messages from my friend, and sent message. It went through fine. Got a reply. Then, went to send a message back, and it wouldn't send?! This is getting frustrating now... lol

Right, narrowed it down to when I import my sms messages... Did a complete reflash of phone... Sent SMS to people fine. Installed all my apps, sms sent fine. Imported sms, couldn't send...

Worked out, that it only won't send to people where I have 2 people who both have the same surname (hence, problem with friend and his wife). Also had some problem with my sister and her husband. They're the only ones I tested, but since it always happened in the same way, that's what I suspect...

Anyway, to backup my sms, I used "SMS Backup and Restore"... Before restoring, sms can be sent to freinds freely. After restoring, I cannot send. If I remove the thread for my friend, I can send them a message. THen, they replied, and I am unable to send messages afterwards. If I remove the thread again though, it works again...

Is there any other program I can use to restore my sms, or is there any thing I can do? Would I be best off contacting the author of the program and asking them?

Many thanks again...

Well, hopefully I've solved it I think...

Went through the xml file for the backup I made, and looks like it was a right mess...

The main problem that seems to have caused it I think though, was the fact that in the xml file, it would have the name and the number, such as address='"Smith, John" <+447792123456>' rather than just address="+447792123456".

So, went through search and replace all records so it only gave the number, and I then restored, and looks like I've been able to text again now... In the example above, I would have John Smith and his wife in my phone (Joan Smith), and it would have for john:

<sms protocol="0" address='"Smith, John" <+447792123456>' date="1253345204000" type="1" subject="null" body="Hello mate, how are you" toa="null" sc_toa="null" service_center="null" read="1" status="-1" locked="0" />
Then, for Joan, it would have
<sms protocol="0" address='"Smith, Joan" <+447792654321>' date="1253345204000" type="1" subject="null" body="Hello, I cannot get through to John, is he ok?" toa="null" sc_toa="null" service_center="null" read="1" status="-1" locaked="0" />

So, I think because of the Smith being the same, it confused. When I transferred it to the correct telephone number, all appears to be ok...

Just so if anyone else has the same problem...

Oh, and I think this should be in android general, as I think it might be a problem with the sms backup & restore / general android sms functions?! (unless only the san fran has this sms method?! Can't say, as it's my first android phone )
