Guest jamielockeymusic Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 my device can't receive any sms after i update my android to 2.1, notice me "the space of sms is full", why? i dont know if this is why but do you have enough free space on phone memory? if you want to use 2.1, root your pulse and install FLB MOD 1.7 :) leaves the phone with alot more internel memory!
Guest pvo Posted October 17, 2010 Report Posted October 17, 2010 my device can't receive any sms after i update my android to 2.1, notice me "the space of sms is full", why? I had experienced the same problem. You have to care about free data space. The problem hit me when I rached around 8MB.
Guest de_shepherd Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 my device can't receive any sms after i update my android to 2.1, notice me "the space of sms is full", why? Pulse was spec-ed for Android 1.5 ... Android 2.1 has greater memory storage requirements and while the Pulse will run 2.1 with the updates from various phone suppliers to do this means reducing the size of the data partition ... as a result you can run out of space with only a handful of apps installed. When this happens the SMS system can spot when a message is being sent that it won't be able to store it so it refuses to accept the message and issues the warning. N.b. there is a secondary issue caused by Android 2.1 having greater RAM requirements which means that when an SMS message arrives it is possible that the messaging apps have been unloaded to reclaim RAM by the OS and in this situation it is possible for the Pulse to accept (or perhaps fail to reject) the SMS message but then no app is prepared to pick it up and store it leading to the "missed SMS" issue. Fortunately via custom ROMs there are ways of addressing both of these. The lack of data storage can be addressed via a2sd which moves the storage of apps to the sdcard. The lack of RAM can be addressed by the latest FLB 1.7 version which includes support for swap. What you have basically found is the same problem that occurs on PCs where you move from windows version N to windows version N+1 and find you need twice as much RAM to run smoothly. I think this in reality is why Tmobile pulled their 2.1 version and why I suspect they may not be able to fix it enough to bring it back.
