Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 There's debate about task killers. Android OS doesn't run like windows. Things can have shared resources. After 2.0 they say there's not really any need for a task killer, mine's been off for days now and it runs just as smooth. Have a quick search in these forums or do the google.
Guest ken218 Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 if you disable the "phone" process - how do you make/receive calls?
Guest jimmy2x2x Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 if you disable the "phone" process - how do you make/receive calls? Not sure of the inner workings, but the phone still functions This is one of my reasons for making this topic, to understand the situation a little better

Although Android is good at managing memory, that doesn't stop developers writing lazy code that sits in the backgroud consuming CPU and battery when not needed. Something that is not needed is better turned off than have running in the background IMO :)
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Yes which brings us to Pauls app of the day - Watchdog. Any misbehaving apps and you get a notification telling you what's up. No need to blanket kill all running processes.

It stops the apps from running randomly in the first place

It stops the apps from running randomly in the first place And how would you know which apps to stop without using something like Watchdog in the first place? Most users don't have a clue what apps do what so suggesting they just use something like Autostarts to stop apps from starting is liable to end up with them messing up their phone.
Guest deweylewie Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 I stopped using an app killer service and now use OSMonitor to check for any naughty processes and System to kill them off.
