Guest RottenFoxBreath Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 You need to download an app from the market allowing you to send bluetooth files. I think Bluex is one. You can send/receive files/photos, etc over bluetooth straight out of the box.. I used it to send my contacts over to anohter phone, and update contacts from my old phone. File Managers like Astro also allow you to send over bluetooth, just press and hold the screen, and a menu pops up..

You'd need to actually have the apk file to send it via bluetooth. When you download & install the file from the market the apk file gets stored in "/data/app" IN THE PHONE (NOT THE SD CARD). So you'd need an app capable of browsing your root directory. Try doing a search for Root Explorer, navigate to the mentioned path and long press the apk file that you wish to BT and you should be good from there.

Guest ASY9650 Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 RottenFoxBreath's implication of using Astro seems a fairly good one, that also allows you to send files.
Guest RottenFoxBreath Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 How do you send music then?. Couldn't be simpler mate. Open Astro, browse to your file, long press the screen on it, select "Send", then Bluetooth(making sure you have Bluetooth on(Doh!), and Bob's yer auntie.
Guest ASY9650 Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) Not taking the piss or picking a fight..it was in response to this comment, You can send/receive files/photos, etc over bluetooth straight out of the box.. I am aware of how to send music files using Astro, but I was just wondering, as you said straight out of the box... Edited October 19, 2010 by ASY9650

I can remember GSM posting the review, and saying it didn't, but it did, as they said it had no bluetooth, you had to download a manager for that, but it worked. Maybe it's different in 2.1, I can't remember, but in 1.6, I managed to set bluetooth to "on", and sent and received various files, ranging from music, to contacts, and pictures(as my wife was getting rid of her phone, and needed to back up her pics), as it's bluetooth 2.1, so worked out of the box..pick an object/item, long press and either select share, or send(via). there are free file managers, and bluetooth transfer agents on the market, also, so you don't need Astro. Root Explorer does it, also, and it doesnt require rooting(unless you want to send system files), select SD card, pick the file, long press, select share or send, and again voila.!. But for all purposes, you NEED a file manager for Android phones(other wise how would you manage to get content!! Edited October 19, 2010 by RottenFoxBreath

Yeah, I see your point, I never think I managed to send music in 1.6, I cans end pictures in 2.1, but not music without some 3rd party app :P . Something google should really look into, integrating bluetooth file transfers and a file manager...

Have you also synced up both phones, i.e: you have to enter a pin, to make sure both phones are connected.
Guest Rednose01 Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) Hi all, yes i am using Astro and afaik the phones are synced. BTW the three other phones i am trying to Bluetooth are all Backberrys, i can receive files from them but cant send any? maybee its their phones. Carl.. Update, just sent pics and music to an old Motorola Razor first time no messing about, So i think the problem i had was with the Blackberrys.. Edited October 21, 2010 by Rednose01
