Guest Odes1 Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 I've just received a text on my San Fran from Orange saying that I should use the "My Account" website more often. I've got an O2 SIM in with a number that has never been associated with Orange. Whats going on!?
Guest ken218 Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 have you maybe put your o2 number somewhere in orange's "contact detail" fields before? That's the only thing I can think of...

My guess would be that one of the Orange apps has "phoned home" (likely using wifi?) and signed its message with your phone info, including the new number (yes, apps can have permission to access that sort of thing). And Orange's SMS spambot has then blindly used that number ...
Guest will7201 Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 That's annoying huh? Have you a stock Orange ROM on your San Fran, or a MoDaCo one? And does that even make a difference? Questions!! Will :)
Guest Odes1 Posted October 18, 2010 Report Posted October 18, 2010 Just went to Orange account to check my details but its undergoing maintenance so I'll have to wait on that one. I'm almost certain I didn't put my O2 number in though. I'm running MoDaCo r3 at the moment and have been since I got the phone (bar 1 or 2 days).

Guest RottenFoxBreath Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) I've just received a text on my San Fran from Orange saying that I should use the "My Account" website more often. I've got an O2 SIM in with a number that has never been associated with Orange. Whats going on!? Funnily enough, the same thing happened to me today, well sort of. Put my phone on Airplane mode, while in the hospital(waiting to pick up a family member, but wanting to play Alien3 on the megadrive emulator), and when i put it back to normal mode, i got a phone call, recorded message telling me i hadn't set up my orange mailbox/answerphone)... Weird I thought, as the orange sim has never been near the phone, so how would they know my number.....? and as soon as the phone was charged, it was unlocked to o2, and promptly flashed to modaco R3. It's never been connected to an Orange service in its life. Then I got a missed call notification, which i thought i would, from another family member wondering why we were taking so long. So I clicked it, and to my amazement, it transferred me over to the Orange answerphone setup service, to set up a passcode or whatever, for my answerphone. I ended the call, but the notification never went away, and i clicked the notification icon again..and again, it directed me to the orange answerphone. I ended the call again, but this time, dialed the o2 answerphone number, and it let me listen to the message, from my already set up(from my last phone) answer service, and I listened to the o2 missed call message. I then deleted it, and it told me, no more messages. Then and only then, did the notification disappear...so weird, any ideas? Edited October 19, 2010 by RottenFoxBreath
Guest Matt Thompson Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I then deleted it, and it told me, no more messages. Then and only then, did the notification disappear...so weird, any ideas? Message waiting notification is sent by SMS - the phone's software is set to call Orange for voicemail so when it had a message waiting you called the Orange number by default. When you manually called the O2 answer service and listened to the message a reset SMS was sent and your phone processed it. You should be able to reset the VM number somewhere - I've not bothered yet on mine as my phone diverts to another one on busy, unavailable or unanswered. All pretty standard GSM stuff. Nothing Android specific or Orange specific here.

Yep cheers, got it..Call Settings - Voicemail Number, changed it from the default one for Orange ending in "123", to the (what I think is the o2 one "+447802091901" Just puzzled me as to why it did it..lol.
