Guest Morris Lee Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 So I am using the froyo leak, but why the kernal is not the version android advertised 2.6.32 but 2.6.29 only? Does it make much difference? How much? Will we get 2.6.32 eventually? Morris Lee
Guest dentette Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 doesn't really make a difference in android The difference in the two kernels are features android doesn't use
Guest jayziac Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 One of the features being that the 2.6.32 kernel uses less memory so Android has more memory available. I think this would be nice especially for the Liquid A1 (with only 256 MB RAM). But I doubt Acer will use it since all of their leaks don't and it seems that only liquidE is officially supported. It seems easier for them to just port Froyo onto an existing working kernel rather than onto a new kernel and develop & test on that. Oh well. At least we're getting Froyo...
Guest mmick Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I think this would be nice especially for the Liquid A1 (with only 256 MB RAM). But I doubt Acer will use it Well, let´s see how it goes on the final ROM but I´m waiting for the great cooking community to put their magical hands on those ROMs and strip off the garbage and leave us a good amount of free space both on RAM and ROM. I´m worried at all as sooner or later we´ll get a blazing fast cooked Acer ROM or a custom ROM like those from Xian, etc. What worries me is that 100% of custom ROMs (LCR´s, Xian´s, Koudelka´s) spend more energy than Acer Leaks... Yeah they are faster but they spend more battery which has no interest IMO. The result should be faster, cooler and allow more battery. I hope someone manages to release soon a 998MHz ROM spending less energy than Acer´s at default speed and, hopefully leaving more RAM left.
Guest simoneser Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Are you sure that a new and faster JIT is included in 2.6.32 kernel instead of 2.6.32? Is JIT enabled with 2.6.32? Nexus one has 500 points more in quadrant test with a higher kernel...the difference between Nexus and Liquid are 200mhz and 256mb of ram...don't you think that with the newer kernel the device should be faster? It seems to me that this Froyo is a Eclair\Froyo hybrid...

Yeah, it is like a hybrid, the liquid e has 512mb, so if it is oced to 998, it might have a chance to be just like the n1 Wouldn't new kernal be more poqer efficient anyway? Morris

I believe that new kernel could improve, but phh is skeptical and to be honest he is the one who should know

Guest Morris Lee Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Is there't a way to try? Maybe we will have a surprise... Can we not just force install the new kernal?
Guest akira.pwr Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Can we not just force install the new kernal? I don't know anything about kernel etc, let someone else try it... If Mr Phhusson could do it..
