Will Orange replace my phone for 1 dead pixel?

I've had this phone now for 6 days and discovered a dead pixel which is constantly red. :)

Tried all the pixel fixing apps but they don't work on oled screens.

There is also a spec of dust under the screen not far from the dead pixel.

Thing is, will Orange accept this as a valid reason to change my phone or will I need to find something else wrong with the phone to beef up my complaint?

Has anyone else returned their phone for dead pixels?

I've read that the limit is 7, but someone else might know better ?

If you've only had it 6 days (and you ordered online or over the phone) you can send it back under the distance selling regs, jut tell them you can't get on with it. And then order a new one when you're refunded. . .

distance selling assumes it wasn't bought in a shop though

If its just one then I doubt it, tho saying that its always worth a go.

Different manufacturers have different thresholds regarding dead pixels and I am guessing that due to the price point on the SF that a cheaper, lower graded screen will have been used, especially since an 'A' grade screen of that size and type can typically cost up to £35 to buy in bulk from the manufacturer.

We used to use a 10.1 inch LCD in a device we manufactured and used 2 grades of screen. The better having a threshold of no more than 3 dead or stuck pixels and the cheaper one having its threshold as no more than 6, as long as no two adjoining pixels were faulty.

The price difference was huge!

Best thing is to try it, if you got it from a shop then the salesperson may not understand that a dead pixel does not automatically mean a device is faulty enough to return so give it a go.

I bought it over the phone (telesales) so the distance selling should apply.

Trouble is I run the risk of getting a worse phone.

My wife also bought a San Fran 3 weeks ago and when I compare both our screens hers definitely airs on the pink side of white but she doesn't care about that. :)

Is the phone be likely to develop more dead pixels as one has gone?

No, there is no increased likelyhood that others will fail.

That's good to know.

Also if I did return the phone would I need to lock the network again (as I use it on o2)

I know I would need to put the stock rom and recovery back on as I'm on R4 :)

If they send you a new phone then yes it will need unlocking again.

It will have a different IMEI number so will need a new code.

I understand that but would I need to lock the old phone back on Orange?

It's not possible for it to be relocked

Anyway, if you're getting a replacement it will just be a swap, so you'll get the new phone the same time you hand the old one to the courier
