Guest 843 Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 I've created and recreated goldcards out of 2GB Sandisk, 2GB Kingston and 1GB Samsung many, many times and yet none of them managed to get me past the first root step (42 custom id check fail). The strange thing is that I managed to downgrade my device to a previous version, which means the gold card must have worked right? I used the goldcard tool to make these, and I've double-checked the codes with a hex editor. Do I really need to look for more cards or is there something else I'm missing? This is driving me nuts.
Guest volatile_ink Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 If you've rooted the phone and flashed a recovery/hboot you don't need to make a new goldcard. Can you provide a detailed explanation of what you are trying to do along with the steps please?
Guest 843 Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 I'm trying to root the phone. So far I've only managed to downgrade the software to an earlier version. I'm still stuck at step1-windows.bat because it wouldn't let me get past the id check, which I believe is related to the gold card.

Don't worry about all that - just use unrEVOked, no gold card needed, quick and easy! http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Guest 843 Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 It works! I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but I managed to get hold of another card (1GB Kingston) and when I tried to get the CID, it returned a different number. This is strange, because I thought the CID is machine dependent and inserting a different card shouldn't have affect it (from my experience with all the other cards). Anyway, I created the image and patched the card into a gold card. The rooting process continued until the end without anymore problem.

CID stands for Card ID as far as I understand, so it is unique for each card.
