Hi there,

I am currently running R3 and would like to install the R4 and do a complete cache wipe and factory reset via clockwork mod recovery, in the hope my dismal battery life will improve.

However I am finding the installation instructions a bit confusing. A few questions..

1. Do I need to root my phone again or simply install clockwork then load the rom?

2. Are these instructions relating to R2 the ones to follow fro R4?

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...rkmod-recovery/

3. I presume then after clockwork is installed you simply follow these steps? ...

* Download the update zip and copy to your SD card.

* Restart your device in recovery mode (turn on your device with 'Volume Down' held).

* Use the recovery menu to apply the update zip.

4. At what point and how do I factory reset and wipe all caches?

5. Is there anyway I can backup my apps prior to this so I don't have to re-install them all?

Sorry for the noobishness. Any help greatly appreciated....

no, once you root your phone, it's rooted for good (unless you decide to un-root it, but let's not go there).

for your second question, that link you provided to clockwork mod are the steps you should take (be it if you're on r2, or r3 on paul's rom). note, that the r2 in terms of the clockwork mod is the second release of it - it's independent from the r2 rom paul made.

question three is spot-on, those are the steps you take.

for question four, the factory wipe/deletion of data partition and cache partition can be found within clockwork mod itself (it'll appear upside down, which is 'normal'). you do this BEFORE you install r4, but, you're advised to do a nandroid backup (backups and restore option) BEFORE you do a factory reset/data/cache partition wipe. i think the nandroid backup backs up your apps, but you could always install titanium backup, which backs up the apks to your sd card.

Many thanks, much appreciated.

oh by the way...is the nandroid backup facility included in clockwork?

you're most welcome.

yes, the nandroid backup *is* the backups/restore utility.
