I've been reading some of the posts on these forums recently and therefore decided upon purchasing an Orange San Francisco, mainly because it sounded so promising. So far it's not been too bad however lately it will not charge up. Whenever I attempt to charge it and plug it in, the phone will switch on and function normally but the moment that I take it off the plug, it will die and claim that it's because it is only charged 1%.

Does anyone have any advice for how I can rectify this problem...or does anyone even know what it wrong with my phone?

Yeah, I have.

That happened to one of the two I purchased.

It was faulty, we went in store and they checked and said it was the charger but everything had to be replaced one by one since I had bought it over the phone.

Tried charging from USB and the mains charger?

Yes.

It's currently connected to my laptop, but I spent the whole day with it charging from the mains.

I've tried connecting it to my laptop and I've also tried another wire (since my friend has the same phone), so I don't think it's the charger in my case, since it charged with them.

My SF died an hour after being charged for the first time, would not show any sign of life when connected to mains or laptop, I checked the battery with a multimeter - it showed 0v.

Took it back the next day to the orange shop - I was refused a refund. After a week of complaints I eventually got my money back. Never again will I buy from Orange Retail.

Wonder what the fail rates are and it appears the batteries are shite :P

I had this problem. Mine wouldn't charge either. When I called Orange they said it is the phone that is the problem. They took mine (just the phone, telling me to keep the battery, memory card and back cover) and gave me a new one. When I tried it it still didn't work! It took a week for it to come so it was really frustrating.

I decided to take it to my local store to get it looked at and they got out a stock from the back and when they tried the new charger and battery it worked. They said the battery and the charger were faulty (they tested both of mine and theirs). However, they wouldn't give me it even though it's an Orange phone. As it was ordered over the phone, I was told I would have to call. I called again. I really thought they would be helpful after this but they weren't. They said they would replace the battery first after I told them it was the battery and the charger and that I got it looked at in one of their stores.

The person in the local shop had told me they would understand and send me both because it wasn't common for 2 things to not work. On the phone they said they have a policy of only giving one item at a time no matter. The battery came after a couple of days and then the charger. The story doesn't end. The phone still did not work! It had been a week and a half.

When I called again I explained everything and finally they said they would replace everything. They took the phone, battery and charger and gave me a new box. The new one works.

It was a really bad experience dealing with them. The lack of help available from them is shocking because they have different departments dealing with different things.

I have complained. And by the way, the replacement charger they sent had no USB end and it was in tacky conditioned.

Out of the three I bought one had a faulty mains power charger. Quickly and easily replaced by the Orange store.
