Resetting to stock (returning to Orange)

Recommended Posts

I need to get my San Fran back to stock, as it's being returned to Orange for a replacement. I'm running Paul's r4 ROM and clockwork recovery.

I want to get it back to being untampered and remove any personal details (logins / passwords, messages, emails etc), and remain able to get the new one set up quickly. I'd like to know if I'm missing anything from this plan:

1) back up everything with titanium backup

2) back up sms (think chompsms does this)

3) copy contents of sd card to computer

4) format SD card

5) boot into clockwork recovery

6) run clockwork wipe

7) flash with stock ROM (in this forum somewhere)

8) reboot device

9) boot while holding vol. up key

10) flash stock recovery image from forum with fastboot

11) reboot

12) repeat 9.

13) flash stock boot image from forum with fastboot

Thanks

Jon

You should make a NANDROID backup from clockwork before step 6 - this will allow you to do a full restore on your replacement phone (will restore your current rom version and all data in one go)

Makes sense, will do. Thanks.

Any chance one of you could go through the above with a little more detail for a newb like me? Some of it makes sense but not all..

WHY do you want to back them up if your resetting it to stock to send back to Orange?

Simply flash the stock rom on it

OLED stock Orange Rom

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...online-kitchen/

TFT stock Orange Rom http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...online-kitchen/

The new B10 Orange Stock Rom http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-2011-oled-tft/

You already have Pauls r4 installed so you know how to flash a rom and you have clockwork installed.

Take your pick of those

Is there not a simpler way of doing this..? or will I have to learn how to do the above..?

When I got the new handset I did the following

1. rooted the handset with "UniversalAndroot (UA)"

2. installed "clockworkrecovery ROMmanager ver3.0.1.4"

3. made a backup up the handset at that point using CWR.

And as a test I want to se if I cen set the handset back to stock, so..

1. do a restore with CWR

2. uninstall CWR

3. unroot and uninstall UA.

4. do a factory reset.

Firstly, this to me looks indetical to stock as when I got it, I have a sneaking suspicion I'm missing something or am I worrying over nothing and I am 100% stock. And secondly if I try a 'install ROM from SD card' option and then select the stock B10 rom from this thread the flash appears to fail because I get a little android with a exclamation triangle and then the phone restarts/reboots etc. And lastly is it possible to re-lock the handset? I dont see it as much a prob if I cant, as its a pAYG handset orange dont have much comeback if it dose go back unlocked - also orange always send out a new handset before receiving the old one etc.

Out of interest, can you tell me why you're returning the phone?

The reason I ask is because I'm considering returning my phone because of poor Wifi performance.

The wifi reception on this handset is crap accross the board, and at some point if it gets any worse I will want to get it replaced. But that said there is no guarantee that the replacement wont be just as bad. For example mines is crashing/rebooting - but untill I know more Im putting this down to having been mucking about with roms and missing a step..

I have been using CWM 3.0.1.4 its listed on the authors website for the Blade. And I tried my own advise and it appeared to work, my only issue was it was extremely choppy performance wise(but so have each subsequent ROM as I try out each ROM flavours. When I tick the wipe option on the CWR rom install window/tab what kind of wipe is it doing? delvik & factory..? From what I read addictivetips.com Im not sure iut has been touching the Delvik cache.

[update] I did a ROM install from the recovery mode (the command line, orange text screen), wiped the cache, factory reset, wiped the delvick and installed from the names FroyoBlade2.2 rom ro 'update.zip" and 1. i flashed much faster than doing from the android launcher and 2. the handset is much more responsive. So I guess the answer to my question is CWM3.0.1.4 dosent do a full wipe (cache/factory/delvik) when the user just clicks on the wipe button withing ROMmanager etc. Well now I know I am gonna do this proceedure for each of my ROm flavours (Stock2.1/MoDaco2.2/Cyanogen2.3) and then put my settings in and then do a backup from within recovery mode.

And while I am on the subject, from day 1 I have never been able to get into recovery mode on either of the ZTE's I have had, via the "pressing volume up key while pressing and releasing the power button" am I missing something..?

recovery mode is volume down + power :D

an alternative method is the stock TPT.

Saves messing around with uninstalling anything, and worked fine with me. My phone is going back to orange just as soon as i get them to honour the warranty!

Yeah just found this out 5 secs ago - so why do the majority of the posts out there say press up..? for a new person to (which I was 3 days ago) having the wrong instructions wasnt helpful - I suppose.

On the stock ROM pressing up dosent nothing, but pressing down brought up a screen with the I think the letters 'FTW' or something begining with F - I assume that was the stock bootloader that the handset comes with from Orange..?

My question is a little different. I want to factory reset mine, as I have a bug whereby on my current 2 different roms I updated to (from 2.1 original stock rom -to Chris Lowthian 2.2, then FLB 2.2). The phone lags when I press call (sometimes nothing happens for 20 seconds, then kicks in). This seemed to all conincide when I swapped to a bigger SD card, but it couldn't copy some files across from android books onto the new SD card from my original one (not sure how that would have affected it, but it's the only thing I can think of). It then froze up upon new start up, wouldn't load, reset itself, then kicked in, but it soon started to lag (unless I turn phone off and on again - then it's fine, but what's the point in doing that?). I know it's not the SD card, as I used a different method on my wife's one and is hers is now on the same rom and same brand SD card (even bought on the same day) but all works fine and I know it's not the rom, as wife's is fine (FLB r10b - although she didn't go via Chris Lowthians 2.2, she went straight from Orange stock 2.1 to flb r10b). If I reflash orange stock rom, will I lose my Clock work recovery? I'm hoping to flash Orange Stock Rom, wipe sd card (can it be wiped of everything, reformatted and then on a reboot on stock orange the phone then reassigns files to it?), then flash the r10b again through clockwork (will this still be on the phone even though sd card is wiped and phone is back on ornage stock?)

Or can I just factory reset on clockwork and it will go back to stock rom? If so, will this also lose clockwork recovery?

Any answers would be MUCH appreciated.

Just flash the stock and do a Factory Reset/Clear Cache & Dalvic all done via clockwork mod, you won't loose clockwork, if returning may be worth finding out how to remove clockwork stocks mind you i took mine back totally debranded since wifi didn't work on first handset.

At somewhat of a large tangent here I didn't really play with the orange stuff for long before chancing the 2.2 roms was there an instant messaging app amongst the huge swathes of nonsense.

Sorry, but was resetting to the original to fix a bug I had. The phone would lag when I tried to make a call, not coming up with the android pic and not actually call anyone for about 20 seconds. It all happened when I changed to a new sd card and the phone obviously got corrupted somewhere when trying to locate a file that didn't copy across to the SD card (or, at least I think this was the reason). I only had a quick look at the stock rom out of curiosity for what it looked like all that time ago, and then flashed Swedish Spring onto it, so don't know I'm afraid!

Sorry!

No worries, sounds an odd problem, hope it's sorted now B) Will store that info away as bound to get a larger sd card soon and if I do get troubles, will try the same.

I've managed to forget what was on original and only bought it Sunday :D

Hello!

Could anyone tell me how to restore the original recovery, e.g. uninstall clockwork?

It's a SF from Switzerland, is it OK to restore stock UK ROM? I cannot find stock SUI ROM, no backup has been made..

Thanks for helping!
