Guest Tatsuki Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Phone screen orientation only rotates if you tilt to left, if i tilt to the right the screen does not orientate. I downloaded a piece of software to test the accelerometer and it appears to be giving readings when you turn the phone to the right, so is this a software issue? The rotation doesn't work appear to work to the right in the internet browser, youtube, settings and other apps. I just downloaded and installed Labyrinth and that seems to work fine, seems that the screen orientation problem is only for certain things like page orientation in the browser or youtube, Am i missing something obvious here. I am running the stock build from the orange shop. Any ideas Regards

Its not a bug or anything, its just not implented. If you write a fullscreen app on your own you can implement it though. Best regards, BB

I could have sworn that I've seen it compared to the iPhone with them both rotating left / right

Loving Android customization coming from the iphone 3G, thanks for the heads up on screen rotation, seems odd you can't rotate all directions for things like web browsing but that may be my apple hat still in place :P Regards.
Guest GraviticVortex Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Its probably just me, but i see no need to rotate both ways... Seems that Android developers didnt see need for it either. For web browsing you already have both modes - portrait and landscape (rotate to left).

But it has been implemented in Froyo. See video here. Its probably just me, but i see no need to rotate both ways... Seems that Android developers didnt see need for it either. For web browsing you already have both modes - portrait and landscape (rotate to left). I do see a need, depending on in which hand you hold your phone normally. Someone holding the phone in his right hand would (i assume) usually rotate to the left for landscape mode. And a person holding it in his left hand would (again i assume) rotate to the right for landscape mode.
Guest daniel_owen_uk Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 I can imagine it being a bit annoying if you are a lefty, most people like the buttons near the thumb on their dominant hand.
Guest jsplace Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Indeed, Froyo does support it although it is an optional setting that is usually hidden in most ROMs. I can however see the point of 270 degree rotation tho as it would be nicer for those who are left handed.
Guest GraviticVortex Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Good point, as a right-handed person i never thought of that...
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 I swear I found this setting somewhere but can't find it this morning! I remember trying it out and it worked, but disabling it cos I don't turn it that way. It basically allowed you to switch the orientation to portrait or landscape RIGHT side. Definitely exists...I've done it...

Definitely exists...I've done it... This would be very useful if it could be done. The current rotate to the left means that the power plug is on the bottom when in landscape mode making it hard to prop it up on my desk if it is plugged into a charger. If the handset could be made to rotate the other way then the power socket would be on the top and it would substantially easier to find a desk stand that could hold it.
Guest mELIANTE Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Maybe it is somewhere in the accessibility menu, which is not active?
Guest ezablade Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 OK, my turn to be dumb... should the home screen rotate? I'm sure it did on the Orange ROM, but, not any more.. apps rotate fine. Am I going mad or, is the rotate just not working?
Guest Raspa Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 As a right-handed user I find it utterly baffling that it only rotates to the left - my natural instinct is to rotate to the right, it feels odd to do it any other way. I'll be glad when any direction rotation is enabled (2.2?)
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Maybe it was on the orange rom...def remember doing it.
Guest StevenHarperUK Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Throwing this into the mix Launcher Pro does either way rotation.

Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 I tried looking into LP settings, whereabouts is this option?!
Guest harmohn Posted October 21, 2010 Report Posted October 21, 2010 Just wanted to add that I find 360 degrees rotation really useful in CM6 on my N1 whilst browsing on 3G as it prevents my hand covering the antenna at the bottom of the phone. Not noticed the same attenuation issue with the SF though :P
Guest Stryke69 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Throwing this into the mix Launcher Pro does either way rotation. umm, where exactly? As a lefty I would love this, but I just can't find the option for that...
Guest flatnote31 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Another lefty wants some juice :P
Guest robot1000 Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 Another lefty wants some juice :P Froyo let's you use orientate it both ways
Guest pbando Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 umm, where exactly? As a lefty I would love this, but I just can't find the option for that... Perferences->Behaviour Settings -> Enable Auto-rotation
Guest ritterkeks Posted October 24, 2010 Report Posted October 24, 2010 also, all the android ports for my htc kaiser (1.5;1.6;2.0;2.1;2.1) of course did rotate RIGHT when the keyboard was slided out. would be really weird if not. so it seems to be just a setting, also working on other android versions!
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Perferences->Behaviour Settings -> Enable Auto-rotation Doesn't let you specify "rotate to right".
