Starting Download ...

Hi guys,

I'm new to the Droid scene but have recently been given (I won it actually) a ZTE Blade and have installed the 404R4 ROM onto the phone. This seems fine but ....

I get a permanant 'Starting Download ...' from the Android Martket.

I've searched the boards but have found nothing that solves this issue. Does anyone know anything that will help at all?

I also cannot connect to Google Talk - not sure if this is connected?

Thanks in advance all!

Kind regards,

This is an issue that has cropped up on the hero once or twice and the fix is to delete the .android_secure folder on the root of the SD card.

Don't know whether this works on the SF tho as have never had the issue.

Ah, was just a thought :P

Dont have the SF in front of me so couldn't check but its like I said, it cured the problem with the Hero.

Maybe someone else will have a better idea

Thanks for trying though!

I even re-set back to the original Orange ROM thinking that would at least fix it but no luck there either ... nuts!

Did you clear the cache and delete data via clockworkmod recovery first?

Bear in mind if you do that it will delete all data e.g. installed apps/contacts etc.

Hi r14z,

I have indeed done that. I've just redone it again and I can now sign into Talk but still no downloading happening. This is annoying me now :P

I, too, couldn't download any apps from the Market after rooting and putting Paul's custom ROM on it (I never tried with the stock Orange ROM). With no joy I returned the phone back to its original stock state, and reloaded Paul's ROM once again. Hey presto! Everything works. Occasionally, an app still won't download, but then its just a matter of canceling installation and retrying the download until it works. Give it a shot.

Hi there,

I have done this unfortunately. I installed Pauls first them back to orange then tried loading up the 404 basic one all not allowing a connection :-(

I seem to be having the same issue, also on R4.

Are you getting anywhere in solving it at all?

Yep - I reinstalled the R4 ROM. I'd removed Google Talk from it the last time I installed it, and this time I left it in and it works fine.

Did you just reinstall it over the top or is there some sort of cleardown I need to do first?

Try this, it worked for me:

From home screen hit menu hard key > Applications > Manage Applications >

(wait a bit for phone to compute) Scroll down to "gmail" click once then

click "clear data" hit back hard key then below it you should see "google

apps" click once then hit "clear data" as well.
