Desire HD or Galaxy S

Due for an upgrade and really can't make my mind up was previously thinking SGS but after reading around the users don't look happy with lag issues and Froyo 2.2 being pulled by Samsung for instance.

Now the DHD well it just 'feels' to similar to my Hero and the battery looks a bit disappointing? And its about £150 more then the SGS.

Coming from a few Samsung devices, I vote for the Desire HD. I love my One month old Desire and the HD is a very promising upgrade looking at it. You cannot go wrong with an HTC device especially when it comes to Android and Windows, the support here at Modaco and at Xda pretty much sums it! :P

That is somewhat of a concern for me too, but it depends on your expectations.

Personally I only require 1 days use. I want to be able to use the phone exactly as i please and never have to even think about battery life. So ideally unplug at 8am and replug at 11pm.

When i heard about the capacity i was a bit concerned, however user experience seems to show that this should be doable, additionally the new chipset is supposed to be more efficient so direct comparisons to older chipsets/battery life are not hugely useful.

The biggest concern is software really, i have (had) an x10, the battery life was TERRIBLE to begin with ~8hrs moderate use with 1500mAh battery, but improved with later firmware releases.

It would seem that HTC are nowhere near as incompetent as SE when it comes to software, so if they have done their job properly, and taking into account their pedigree its not far fetched to assume so, the battery life should be fine.

Im still waiting on delivery for mine though so its just speculation at this point :huh:

To make this relevant, my friend owns a galaxy s, he has huge battery issues, it will last about 6-8hours moderate use. However, im not sure that is representative of the galaxy s in general, he may have a faulty unit...

As for the choice between the two devices, in my opinion the desireHD wins out in several ways; better looking, better camera, bigger screen...

Also, a big concern is software updates, HTC's sense seems excellent, leaps and bounds ahead of other UI mods, and HTC are well known for fairly prompt updates, samsung is not.

So i would pick the DesireHD without question, but i like big screens and 'square' styling, my friend on the other hand LOVES his galaxy s and wouldnt swap it for the world, so whatever you go for you will be pleased i think :rolleyes:

Oh, the screen on the galaxy S is gorgeous for photos and vids, really it is.
