Want to use a2sd+ instead of a2sd

I am currently using Modaco R8 custom ROM with a2sd.

Even with a2sd, internal memory is still being depleted quickly as existing apps are updated with larger file sizes and new applications are available for android at an exponential rate.

So, I am thinking of reflashing a custom R8 ROM with a2sd+ instead of a2sd.

Question is, moving from a2sd to a2sd+, do I have to wipe my Desire and/or reformat SD card for a2sd+ to work? Or any special admin stuff I need to do to prepare for upgrade from a2sd to a2sd+?

Or do I not need to do anything and the system will automatically recognise a2sd+ and move dalvik cache automatically?

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

As for my own input, I would say no re-formatting/wiping is needed as you already have your ext2/3 partition. The only thing that will change, from my understanding, is the moving of dalvik cache from phone to sdcard by A2SD+.

Thanks mate. Appreciate your input.

Just curious though, do you feel a slow down in speed using a2sd+ because of the read/write struggle between ext and FAT32 partition?

I am concerned that if I were to change from a2sd to a2sd+, given what is said in the article you referenced, then if I were to take videos of my kids running around, the videos will start to be choppy. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Tell you what, i'll take a video of my kid tonight and let you know!!! I've not experienced any other type of slow down though and have always used a2SD+ since getting my Desire.

If the only difference between Apps2SD and Apps2SD+ is a move of the dalvik.. that can be done without reformatting by using ADB.

But forgot the commands :P

I have done exactly the same. Had R8 with APP2SD and than decided to go for APP2SD+. Just reflashed new rom with APP2SD+ and that was all. No wipe, no preparations were neccesary. Since than everything is running smooth and without space problems.

This worked for me too with no issues if that helps.
