Guest BK2FUT Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 What needs to be backed up before using the official LG software to update to Android 2.1? Will eMails, texts, apps etc. remain or is it essentially like a factory reset? I'm guessing synced items, such as calendar entries and contacts will be saved. Thanks in advance, OT.

Its a Factory Reset + Upgrade. So in essence you'll lose Phone contacts, sms', email (settings not actual mail cuz its on a mail server), apps. Make a backup of those you need including apps (purchased apps should be in your email inbox) and the free ones you can try re-downloading them in the market. Edited October 22, 2010 by gstar101

Okay, good to know, thanks for the reply. Is there any way to back up the texts? eMail etc. I'm not that worried about, but I have some important sms messages that I'd rather not lose. Can't find an option to copy/export a thread or save to the sim or anything...

You will not lose your contacts unless you have disabled the contact sync. With sync enabled your contacts are stored in your Gmail contacts and will be downloaded to the phone after you have associated it with your Google account again.

Okay, that's cool, I keep my contacts synced. Thanks!
Guest Carbonize Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Log in to your Gmail and check under Contacts just to make sure they are there.

Guest Prince of Dreams Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 With LG suite you can back up all your contacts, calendar & SMS, even your photos although they are stored on your SD card and dont need to be backed up, you can download a program called Astro from the market place this will allow you to back up all your apps (it is a free app to). Once you upgrade everything in your phone is wiped so make sure you back everything up, Don't worry about your SD card though it is not touched although it is a good idea to remove it before upgrading. Once you upgrade re download Astro and run the back up (which will be stored on your SD card) and re synch with LG suite and everything should be back. Although like the earlier poster stated I am not sure if you can move the SMS back but at least you have them on your PC

Got an app on the marketplace called SMS Backup & Restore that I can only assume works. Will use the PC suite though, that way even if the app doesnt work I'll still have them. Also, even though sync is on, my contacts aren't backed up in my gmail account. But at least the suite will do that. Thanks again! OT

Guest BK2FUT Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 are there any good apps for backing up contacts? Google sync won't work for me, and this LG PC Suit seems to be a nightmare, refuses to sync also... :)

Actually noone of the Sync software will work if your phone is rooted and dont have busybox installed on it. You can sync everything with non-rooted phone tho and phone that is rooted and have busybox :) Edited November 5, 2010 by ilovelg

Or if you have over 250 or so then do a Market search for Contacts Back Up. A few of those should let you back up to a SD card.
