Guest sebset Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I think next smarphones should be smaller! http://www.windowsfordevices.com/news/NS96...9696321878.html Samsung squeezes smartphone on single chip Feb. 03, 2003 Samsung will unveil a new 1-chip solution for developers of smartphones and other handheld devices at the GSM World Congress conference, in Cannes, France later this month. The new "System-In-Package" component measures 17x17x1.4 mm, and integrates Samsung's S3C2410 ARM-based processor along with 256MB of NAND Flash and 256MB of SDRAM memory. The S3C2410 is based on an ARM920T CPU core operating at 203 MHz. Peripherals functions integrated into the SIP chip include USB (host and device) and SDIO. The device supports operation under Windows CE, as well as several other embedded OSes.
Guest Shuflie Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Seen this already. Have a look at my post in the off topic forum. http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3060 Has a link to Samsung's info on the chip.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 This part in you link shuflie is interesting 256Mb of NAND flash memory and 256Mb of SDRAM memory. The S3C2410 is the world's first System-on-Chip (SOC) to have a NAND flash boot loader. Thats the sort of memory we need
Guest Shuflie Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Yeah 32MB is a bit miserly, but it's all on the same chip as the processor so there should be lower overall power consumption and possibly a better speed of comunication between the processor, RAM and flash memory.
Guest sebset Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Yeah 32MB is a bit miserly I think it's enough to run smartphone2002 and even next release.
