Guest miali Posted October 23, 2010 Report Posted October 23, 2010 (edited) First of all a big thanks to Paul and other users of this forum. I have an Orange San Francisco with R3 ROM on T-mobile network. Recently I was experimenting with battery life extension strategies. I switched to using only 2G and turned off mobile data connection at night. In morning after a good 8-9 hours, I could not get it to reconnect (i.e. show G/3G/3G+ indication) even after trying to switch between 2G and 3G, turning mobile data connection on/off and so on. Only a roboot got it working again. After reboot I tried switching between 2G/3G with/without data connection and it worked until I turned it off and kept it that way for a good number of hours. I have been able to replicate this behaviour multiple times now. Any clues? Thanks. EDIT: This doesn't affect Wifi connection or making calls/receiving text but only mobile data connection. The first time I noticed it was when using the market app Tasker to automatically switch data connection off/on during night to increase battery life. Edited October 23, 2010 by miali

The first time I noticed it was when using the market app Tasker to automatically switch data connection off/on during night to increase battery life. I seemed to have found a workaround. If I switch to 3G first and then try switching on mobile data connection it seems to work. Good enough for now. Switching to 2G and keeping mobile data connection and auto updates off has resulted in a very decent battery life e.g. 65% battery remaining even after a day off charge including occasional use as well.
