Titanium Backup the best way to backup apps/data when switching roms?

Yes it is (well I've found it to be the best), but pay for the pro version, so you can batch them.

If you're using Clockworkmod you can do a full backup of the current ROM and all apps/data, but Titanium Backup is a great app if you just want to backup system data and apps.
