Guest DiscoHero Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) Looks like my SD card (SanDisk 4Gb that shipped with HTC Desire) failed. Phone insists that "SD Card is safe to remove". Tried restarting, taking the card in and out etc but it refuses to mount on the phone or the desktop computer despite all the voodoo. I am a little disappointed that a card died in such a short time. Could be APP2SD+ or it could have been a lemon. Just wondering if anyone experienced the same problem and if any data recovery software was able to get back at least some of the lost data (my Note Everything Pro database/backup is what I am really after)? I tried a few utilities for SD data recovery but all failed to see/recover any data. Edited October 25, 2010 by DiscoHero

It's gone through 3 since phone purchase back in April. Once those cards are shot, they're shot. Though i have had a measure of success of leaving the card dormant for a while, then putting it back in the phone and I can read data from the "okay" areas of the card again. When SD cells are burnt out, that's it. No recovery. I suspect the phone element since when I got my Nokia N85, the reader built into the phone was DOA. So readers aren't always perfect themselves. But I've heard equal numbers of complains on the 4GB cards bundled with the Desires. But if it dies within warranty, get a new one!

Called HTC, they said it needs replacing, so I called T-Mob. Got another one v quick (2 days).
Guest DiscoHero Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 So I thought. Will keep the card ... in case it "magically" decides to be read at some point later. It will be rather pointless then but who knows. Perhaps, there will be something on it that I will still want to recover. Most things are "in the cloud" so not an issue but an annoyance. Note Everything notes are the only thing that aren't recoverable. Note to self, back up Note Everything DB to desktop once in a while. Picked up 8Gb SanDisk Class 10 during lunch. Might still pest HTC for a replacement though.

For CS, hTC are absolutely shocking to be fair :P

I need a card now not at some unknown point in the future is only when I win the epic battle with customer support :D I can't install anything from the market now ... "download unsuccessful" with everything. Splendid. EDIT: MCR MarketSpeedup script solved the above-mentioned market downloads failing issue. Edited October 25, 2010 by DiscoHero
