Guest retral Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Heya guys, ordered my SF from Orange yesterday, and it should arrive with me tomorrow. Just wanted to know how I should set things up really. I will not be wanting to use Orange, as I am already happy on my network (GiffGaff), so I will need the phone to be unlocked. I do not want all of the crappy pre-installed Orange software on my phone, so I will be wanting to flash the phone using one of the ROM's created by this lovely community (<3) Which ROM should I get? -Which is fastest? -Which is easiest to upgrade? -Which is upgrade most frequently? -Can anybody link me to some guides on how to install these awesome ROM's? I heard that with one of the ROM's I won't need to buy an unlock code, as it does it for you? If I do need to buy an unlock code, where would you recommend buying one from? If the phone has been flashed, unlocked and no longer has the Orange SIM or Software on it, will my warranty become void? How long is the warranty from Orange (I know I could have looked this up myself, but might aswell ask here considering I'm asking a lot of stuff)? --------------------- Thanks to anybody who can help with any of the above questions. PLEASE add me on MSN, or drop me an email if you are willing to help me get set up! Contact details: MSN: [email protected] Email: [email protected] Thanks again :P Liam
Guest Kame_boy Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Considering you seem so new at this i'll give you some advice before anybody else starts bashing away. First of all it's generally considered rude in a forum to disregard all pinned topics and not do some digging yourself before posting a question. All of your questions are more or less answered in other topics and the last one is kind of impossible to answer, i guess. The reason for this is that if everyone new at this were to ask these kinds of questions in new topics, the forum would quickly become very cluttered. Secondly, you will be needing an extensive amount of reading before rooting. But fear not, there are a lot of guides posted here and in other forums. But unless you pay somebody, i don't think anyone will be doing anything more than linking you to these guides, that you easily could have found just by reading the topic titles. Third(ly), you are encouraged to try out the roms for yourself, they all have their own good sides and you are almost always able to find out what distinguishes them just by reading the thread they are posted in. Last but not least, IF you were to encounter some need or problem, that you are unable to find an answer to, then you may state your question in an already opened thread, if aplicable. If not, you are most welcome to start your own thread and perhaps that way even contributing to the overall knowledge of this forum. So summing it all up. Start reading the pinned topics. And have fun with your SF.

Guest kissofjudas Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) What is often forgotten, is that many people myself included had never heard of the events (with regard to Mobiles) such as Flashing a Rom, Rooting, etc (apart from Unlocking a Phone usually at a market stall or small independant Phone shop) so someone posting just install clockwork recovery, flash this or that can be extremely daunting, also some visitors may not be aware of how to negotiate a forum or what obscure terms to search to prevent 200 hits to trawl through. That's why it's great to see comprehensive "extremely simple and cogent" instruction sets. Whilst there are some good tutorials posted here, it can sometimes be seen the author has some knowledge of the subject and this can lead to assumptions as to the perceived clarity of understanding for the student. Great forum though Edited October 25, 2010 by kissofjudas
Guest Kame_boy Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 You guys make a valid point. It's hard to learn all the mobile lingo from scratch. I did find this however: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...and-other-roms/ A very good start.
