Guest phenomboy Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Hi guys, Does anyone know how to get back the dell streak 1.6 stock keyboard on 2.2 version (Stephen Hyde) ? The one in the new version doesn't have arrows and numpad and was much more ergonomic IMO If someone knows how to do that or just an app that have the same features i'll take it ! Thanx

Guest ClippinWings Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) Yeah This. The 1.6 keyboard was sweat! I have so many typos on the 2.2 board that I use voice to text for most items now... which can be cumbersome. PLUS, since I have no passwords that do not have numbers in them, the number pad saved a ton of time! Is anyone working on porting the 1.6 board to 2.2? Edited October 25, 2010 by ClippinWings

You know you press any key on the keyboard and without releasing drag to the top of the keyboard and the number row will pop up right? Might aleviate some number pad missing woes.

You're right but the separated numpad is more ergonomic and the arrows prevents "misclicking" when you know that streak's touch screen is approximative sometimes if not most of the time...
Guest extrememonkey Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Not the original 1.6 keyboard but actually works really well...... www.streaksmart.com/2010/10/dell-streak-user-begins-work-on-split-keyboard.html I'm a swype man myself and find it hard to use anything else now, but used this for a week and actually really liked it

Plus it's one of the "OMG that phone is huge" factors that make the streak unique.

Guest popetodd Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 LOL! The 1.6 keyboard is the Marmite of the Streak. I like Marmite. :P
Guest andycqos Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 What not just try one of the other keyboards out there instead of looking for a retro grade step back to 1.6? I use SwiftKey. It predicts what youre typing and has a numpad

It's not like retrograding or something like that, IMO that keyboard was one of the good things to keep from 1.6.

Can you provide me with a screenshot of what you are looking for, it is very easy to make a APK for the keyboard by modifying the Sample SoftKeyboard that the Android SDK has, I don't think I am good enough in Java right now to implement the Arrow keys but the rest is plain easy and I can provide you with some help atleast :P

Guest brokenpixel Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 +1 If you manage to pull this keyboard out I'm all in.. Key functions are #Keypad on the right and the two tiny arrows on the left hand side, we need them arrows for all the typo corrections that we will be doing :P You can get rid of the smiley key and put back and enter key.
Guest popetodd Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I've got the 1.6 keyboard apk but it requires some libraries in the framework that are different in the 2.x releases. It just locks up on 2.x.

Maybe something can be done from that.
Guest Matthias_WL Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 I would really like to get 1.6's keyboard for 2.1/2.2. I would be willing to pay up to 20 Euro to anyone who gets this working.
