Guest Sere83 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) I recently exchanged my San Fran believing it was faulty, as it got very hot on charge and could only manage 11-12 hrs under light use. I now have a replacement where the battery life seems noticeably a lot better. I was running Sebastian's R4 rom on the old device and want to install a custom rom again but am concerned that doing this might have a bad affect on my battery life. I did not test the last phone prior to installing a rom so do not know for sure but... Is this a possibility? Edited October 25, 2010 by Sere83
Guest daniel_owen_uk Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Of course, a badly written rom could enable an app with a memory leak that would drain the battery. I am BY NO MEANS saying Sebs R4 is a badly written rom, just commenting on the feasability.
Guest blauwal26 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 That certainly could be possible. I am using sebastian404's rom and easily get through a day with medium wifi use and calls.
Guest Azurren Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Yes it is possible But a well written custom rom (like those found at modaco) with a lot of the stock crap cleaned out (Badly written, resource hungry orange apps / branding) can improve battery life :P The Froyo rom here could reduce battery life as it has been ported from another device (And is in Alpha) but on the flipside it is froyo.. So it could improve battery life
Guest Sere83 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 Yeah Sebastians and Pauls roms both gave me very similar battery performance, e.g. terrible! That is why I think my phone was broken or had power management problems. I have left the new phone off charge all day and have only used it as a stop watch for 25 minutes or so rest of the time idle and it has not even dropped a bar. On my old phone it would drop to 74% after literally an hour of doing basically nothing, maybe a little stop watch timing. So pleased to actually have what a appears to be decent battery life I just do want to ruin it with a custom rom!

Guest eckengucker1 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 the problem may be that the cpu scalling is set to "performance" in the kernel. We had the same problem with our pulses
Guest Sere83 Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) This may be of use: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/vBwiki/index.p...librate_Battery hmm interesting, no one seem to have mentioned this though, is this essential for accurate battery readings after a custom rom flash? the problem may be that the cpu scalling is set to "performance" in the kernel. We had the same problem with our pulses But this doesn't explain why the battery on my last unit was so weak and the new one seems much better. I'm presuming that sebastian's deorangenated Roms are set to the same as the stock rom right? can this even be changed? Edited October 25, 2010 by Sere83
