Guest Simon Baker Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Hi, Ive noticed that the wifi strength is very poor, im using the r3 rom and im putting it down to that. My friend has the SF straight from orange and he can sit next to me and have a full signal and I have next to nothing. Does anyone else have this issue? Is it the Rom? cheers Simon
Guest southeastblue Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I'm pretty sure my internet signal has always been the same... I've used the original Orange 2.1, Pauls rom in R1, R2, and R3 forms and Seb's R5 rom plus the new Froyo one. Maybe you have an faulty handset?
Guest Stuart_f Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 It is possible that you have bluetooth enabled and your friend does not? There was some speculation in another thread that since these 2 functions are combined on a single chip that they may interfere with each other.
Guest EMMJAY Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 You have a faulty handset my friend...my brother has the same phone and we both have r4 installed, yet he has hardly any wifi conncection and i have full. when he received new handset, he now has full.

Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 How can I check whether I have a faulty Wifi handset? I can connect to Wifi but get very low signal, off my cheap Netgear free wireless router I literally have to put my phone on the router for max signal. 3 feet away and it drops to one bar/one dot. Ideas? Andy

Andy Install Wifi Analyzer on both handsets, run on both and take a picture/video (if yours shows a poorer signal). -50dBm is better than -70dBm - I am no expert at explaining dBm so I won't try! Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Just compared the latest SF my dad got with the wifi on mine. His one gets full bars where mine gets one dot. And it works as far as my bedroom so no need for all the antenna parts I ordered yesterday lol. Dammit now I'm gonna have to spend ages fiddling with the new one they send me... If they do send me a new one! On the phone to them as I type this. Andy
Guest AndyHibberd Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Update - First guy never called me back. Took my IMEI and nothing else...suspicious or what! Second guy was very helpful, asked me to do some testing using my mum's orange SIM but I don't think that worked so he agreed for a replacement. He almost shook me off by saying something about me using it for over a month but I had only used it a few weeks. Getting it delivered tomorrow 6-10pm. Also get to keep memory card, back cover (sweet!), and best of all...BATTERY! Free spare battery! More excited about this than anything else. Blessing in disguise. On a side note the guy was a proper joker and wanted me to call him back tomo eve just for a chat, see how HE'S getting on cos it's 2am over there in India! Brilliant. Andy Further update: You don't get a full replacement phone, they literally swap the main front piece of the phone so no spare battery. :) Edited October 31, 2010 by AndyHibberd

Ideas? Andy Hi guys, I am from Germany and bought this phone - as it is not sold here - over ebay. I have the same problem. The SF has less than half the signal than my HTC Desire and it just reaches 1.5 rooms, before there is no signal left. Couldn't this possibly be a RADIO issue? For the HTC Desire over at xda-developers there were plenty of different radio ROMS that could be installed. Sometimes indeed it did help. For this device I haven't seen any. Has someone an idea? Guest Kojak Posted April 7, 2011 Report Posted April 7, 2011 Hi all SF owners with WiFi issues, My son had the same issues, and due to the bad service of our operators in Belgium, I went on it myself to solve the problem. The manufacturer seems to use antennas that are absolutely not doing the job right. I don't know if that is for all devices out there of course and I can therefore only speak for the one we have. On this page: Itc4u.net - ItChalckboard - sf wifi issue , I've posted the things I've done to solve the problem without paying a cent. (well if you don't count my time and 2 pieces of foil and scotch tape :D ) I hope it also works for you. Regards,
