Guest Cribby Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Hi, I've had my SF for 2 weeks now and it's almost perfect. The only thing that is problematic with my device is that it takes forever to connect to any satellites. I wanted to use Google Maps today without sucess as it simply couldn't connect to any satellites. I was outside and there were no clouds or things in the way. The GPS has worked but has taken about 2 minutes to initialize. It feels that if I use the app "Speedometer" it connects faster but that could just be coincidence. Someone else with this problem? I'm on the Modaco R3 rom btw.
Guest johntrfc Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Not had any GPS problems infact i have found that the Gps on the Blade is the best I have ever seen. Picks up my exact location even when indoors within 10 seconds

Guest MIKEYMC Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Same here, very quick pickup. Same here was showing 10 satelites when I was laying in bed.
Guest blauwal26 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I don't know why that is but it seems some SanFrans have a much better gps performance than others. Mine is really okay outdoors and there always are at least 8 satellites in view. When riding a train I noticed my SanFran saw 2 satellites and could therefore not give me a location whereas an iphone4 showed the exact way we were going, not sure what kinds of extra tricks apple employs here though.
Guest Cribby Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 So this basicly means my GPS is faulty in some way because my old Tattoo picked up satellites in about 10 seconds and your SFs too?
Guest Cribby Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Are you using AGPS? What should I use? :P
Guest blauwal26 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Somewhere in Settings -> Location below the GPS thing there should be something about using assisted gps and something about it using network traffic, is that ticked? I can't find that on froyo anymore so not sure whether it even was there. Also, does the phone "somewhat" locate you in google maps using wifi and cell tower ids? Or does it really have no idea where you are?
Guest goods Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 So this basicly means my GPS is faulty in some way because my old Tattoo picked up satellites in about 10 seconds and your SFs too? You don't happen to have "fake caller" installed do you? I tried it and it stopped the gps from working, deleted it and gps was back to working fine again, so this means same apps can have an effect on the gps.
Guest Cribby Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the help everyone! In google maps I get a location but it isn't exact (a circle around me) and if I try the speedometer app it says "poor signal" and sometimes after a minute or it suddenly says "Excellent signal". I think I think that I've tried with and without A-GPS. Android says that the GPS perfomance is better with it turned off :S I don't have "fake caller id" installed. I have to go now, coming back in about 3 hours and hopefully with some more results. I will try with settings on and off and so forth. Post if you know something! :P Edited October 26, 2010 by Cribby
Guest pjas Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 same as the rest gps locks on in seconds and is the best i have seen in a phone
Guest Ashenfall Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 How can you tell how many satellites it's locked onto?
Guest Cribby Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Ok, I'm back. I seriously can't get any good signal. What is happening :P I tried with and without AGPS.
Guest Cribby Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Ok, I've fixed it now. Downloaded a program called "GPS Status and Toolbox" and did a cold reset of the GPS and downloaded new AGPS data. Locks instantly now :P
Guest MIKEYMC Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Have you tried with this http://www.appbrain.com/app/gps-status-too...psim.gpsstatus2
Guest MIKEYMC Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Sitting in a mid-terrace house middle room downstairs and I've got 4 satellites. Theres an option on that app to show the satellite fix time.
Guest Cribby Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 In post #15 I said that I have fixed it but thanks :P
