Guest jonesjeremya Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) I am stuck! Please help! I have searched this forum and others, and tried tried the suggestions from others who have had the same issue, the suggestions worked for them...but not for me... I Successfully updated to O2, 1.6, build 4399 by using the following guide and linked package files, http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-str...ing-the-streak/ I started the guide verbatim, based on the information in the guide. I started at the title heading "Upgrading from AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) to O2 2.1 (build 8105)" Afterwords, it was successfully loaded .....O2, 1.6, 4399..... I get to the next part of the guide titled "Now your AT&T Streak is on the same build and version of Android as the original UK O2 Streak. If you've made it this far upgrading to 2.1 is a piece of cake." I followed the directions provided in the guide, to go from O2 1.6 4399 to O2 2.1 8105, verbatim as well as using the links provided for the files. But I get stuck at the Dell logo when the reboot takes place after the upgrade to O2, 2.1, 8105. There are no glitches or other occurrences which would indicate any errors or anomalies. So this is the point where I am stuck. :P When trying to go to O2, 2.1 (various builds attempted 8105, 6941, and the official O2 2.1 from Dell) the streak is stuck at the dell logo on re-boot, all three buttons lights on, and will stay that way until the battery dies. I have tried the following 2.1 upgrades with no success. I ALWAYS get stuck at the dell logo when ever the upgrade process has completed and the Streak re-boots. I am able to pull the SD card, copy the O2 1.6, 4399 build update.pkg back on the SD card and essentially "downgrade" or re-follow the original instruction steps as if I was upgrading. The unit will then be functional as O2 1.6, 4399. Am I missing something critical. I have scoured for information, but just can't get past the point where 2.1 won't boot. I am wondering if there is a difference in the streaks form dell direct, and the streaks from Best Buy. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I have an At&t Dell Streak, bought it two days ago from Best Buy. I'm really going to love it if I can get 2.2 on it! Thanks for any help, and thanks for a great site. Guest brokenpixel Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 It has been said that hard resetting the device fixes the issue. but don't hold your breath while booting.

It is unlikely there is something wrong. It is more likely that despite you thinking you're following all the instructions correctly, you are not. Luckily, I have put together a set of near fool-proof instruction for the upgrade. I think it's a bit more detailed than what you're using and provides all the needed files in one source, so you are not accidentally mixing and matching different things. http://weethomas.wordpress.com/ So far, everyone who has had issues doing the upgrade who contacted me about it have always succeeded after using the guide and files I put together for this purpose.
Guest jackgt Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 When I had this problem it was because I forgot to rename the pkg file. It has to be named "upgrade.pkg". I ended up having to put the SD card into a card reader in my laptop, rename it, then bingo I was good to go.

I appreciate your help and suggestions. However, I did follow the original instructions, verbatim. I don't believe the issue is with my execution of the steps, and more perhaps a difference with my streak, I really don't know. I have followed the guides including yours, multiple times. I cannot get ANY build of 2.1 to boot on my device. I have tried multiple builds, and multiple .pkg files from multiple sources, 2.1 appears to update and all goes well until it's time to boot 2.1, and it's stuck! I can upgrade/downgrade 1.6 all day long with no problems or errors, I feel like my execution of the instructions is exact. I have repeatable, successful results when doing anything with any of the 1.6 versions. I'll detail what I did, and where I got stuck, also with your instructions. Since my Streak was stuck at trying to boot 2.1, I restored back to At&t, 1.6 build 6601 from the instructions in this guide: http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-str...ing-the-streak/ After the restore, it was 1.6, build 6601, however it still had some O2 flavoring. Layout was O2, not any At&t stuff, browser home page pointed to O2, etc. So, I didn't feel as if I was really starting fresh. When I received my streak, I installed dell pc suite, and I made a backup of my streak. At the point of the backup I had already downloaded a few apps, setup a few things here and there in the Streak. So anyways, after I felt there was some O2 stuff still hanging around, I restored the previously created backup through dell pc suite. When it rebooted, the Streak was the same before I started any of the upgrades. From my view, it looked just like the streak I pulled out of the box and played with for an hour or two. So at this point I was pretty confident I was back at square one. I removed all files from the root of the SD card. Fresh and clean at this point.... I followed your steps outlined in your guide (http://weethomas.wordpress.com), up until step 10, which is where I had a problem. I didn't actually see an "option" to install the "update.zip". The screen was the same as it always is when entering recovery. I first selected the second line item "update.pkg" as I always did. Then after that my only option was the emergency recovery option by pressing the camera button, or volume down to exit. I pressed the camera button to initiate the recovery, and after a short time I was presented with two errors on screen see the error screen image here: http://db.tt/XKUTY9P I tried a second attempt, after re-copying the .zip file from your comprehensive package of files. I renamed it as instructed to: Update.zip, and again put it in the root of the SD. I tried step 10 again, with the exact same results. So after it failed, I just went ahead with the rest of the instructions as a last ditch effort, and placed Update.pkg on the root of the SD. Followed the remainder of your instructions, and again after all that I am stuck trying to boot 2.1. I read somewhere that booting into recovery and selecting "factory reset" helped some, but didn't make any difference for me. Am I missing something? Despite all of my efforts, and again, being very careful to follow the instructions, I am still at a loss. I can put different versions of 1.6 on the Streak, upgrade...downgrade...you name it. But this thing just won't boot 2.1 Can you guys here offer more suggestions or insight as to why 2.1 fails to boot on my device. Also, I would be curious to know if other Streak owners which just recently purchased their Streaks from Best Buy are able to upgrade. I really beginning to think there is a difference in the Streak from Best Buy. Thanks! Jeremy

Jeremy Hmm, I have an idea of what went wrong, the recovery image bootloader must have been overwritten when you started the streak, so when you got to step10, it didn't work. Here is the solution. Perform my instructions in this order: 5, 6, 7, 1, 2, 3 ,4 , 8, 9, 10. If you get through step10 successfully, you can continue following the instructions. Let me know how that goes. Specifically that when you get to step 4, you see "Download RECOVERY Done" and in Step 10, you get that second screen to select "update.zip".
