Hi guys,

Just got my ZTE Blade after reading Pauls review. So far, i'm loving the phone, everything's perfect. It's fast, responsive, feels well in the hand. It does not seem to suffer from the problems mentioned on the forum (such as overheating while on charge or lossing wifi connection in standby) which is good.

However, one function does act weird. The compas. It seems to pick a random direction and does not move about much. I have tried SpeedHud app and google maps, in both the direction does not change as you rotate the phone.

Am i missing something? does the magnetometer inside have a weird orientation? does anyone else expirience similar problem?

Thanks,

Igor

Test marine compass from the market, if it doesn't work fine, then you could do a factory reset. If even after that it doesn't work you could have a faulty phone...

Note the compass is a compass.. So rotating the phone should have little effect. Hold the phone out and spin slowly on the spot.

Sorry just how you worded it. You probably already know this

Also try it outside / away from where you originally tried it. Maybe some interference

As far as I can tell the blade is cheap for a reason.. Poor quality control. Most units will work completely fine and then some unlucky people get a faulty one. If it doesn't work best get it changed before orange decide otherwise :P

Thanks for the suggestion. i've tried marine compas. The accelerometer works flawlessly, however, compas only works when the phone is upside down. i.e. lying flat on the table with screen facing down.... strange...

It probably needs a calibration. I use the app called Compass and this allows me to calibrate the compass by rotating the phone in a number 8 pattern. Since I did this the compass has been fine.

Azurren was right, it's just interference. It works more or less correctly outside, away from any metal. in buildings and worst of all, near computers, it doesn't work at all.

Seems to work much better on the new 2.2 firmware aswell.
