Guest mantrac Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Has anyone out there seen Orange's "sensible" GPRS Roaming Charges?? Has the world gone mad??!? The average European country charges anything from £8.51 to £10.00 per megabyte and Hong Kong costs a whopping £25.00/megabyte!!! For £25.00 in Hong Kong, you can sit in the fastest Internet Cafe for a good couple of days, surf the internet non-stop, eat lunch, dinner and order a couple of tropical dancers to keep you amused while you download Matrix 2 on some dodgy place along side 4-5 music albums... Do they seriously expect us to believe that the bandwidth they provide us, costs them SO MUCH MONEY??? We're merely sucking data at a speed of a ridiculously outdated computer modem and the data is mostly e-mail headers... In addition to that, GPRS is a packet-based service which means that users are not clogging up the mobile network while downloading data because everyone can share the same channel. I find it hard to believe that Danish mobile networks MUST charge me almost 9 quid to cover the costs of transferring a mere megabyte of information over to my phone. Christ almighty, and I thought SMS was the rip-off of the mobile communications century! We all thought we were getting a bargain, buying an $PV for 99 squid... Talking about subsidising devices due to future usage revenue...

Guest mantrac Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 German Pay As You Go SIM cards anyone?? Well, I'm thinking, you'd be better off buying a Pay As You Go GPRS card for the country you're visiting rather than roaming... There's a level of discomfort due to the change of number but at least you can get your job done cheaper...
