I'm in love with my Orange San Francisco, but today I found something that I reckon would be totally awesum

http://synapse-phones.com/order.php

comments? thoughts?

an android with 12 MP camera, xenon flash, 32 Gb of built in storage, 1024 Mb of working memory and so on...

I'm going to order one once they start taking orders.

I know this might not be the right place to ask about this, but as someone who loves his san francisco it would be interesting to hear other owners views/thoughts,

and I'm sure someone will move it if it needs to me

three times the price for half an inch more screen, then add even more for "standard" features... radio, 3.5mm jack, wi-fi.. add more to get the internal memory up to SF spec... total to get a faster processor and slightly bigger screen.... over €360....

people on here bought the SF because it costs £99, if we wanted to spend over £300, we would have

I think most people who own OSF love it because of all the features at its great price. I think the price for Synapse phones matches with what they provide, starting at around 300-400 euro for the basic phone platform without any extra options going much higher when adding more stuff. There is no discussion you can get great phone from them, however, it's a different device and market.

If someone really wanted to make an impact on Android phones, they would release a truly open source phone, along with all of the code needed for it and they would make the most of the homebrew effort by opening up official development to all rather than forcing people to rely on hacked versions of unofficial releases from leaked/stolen phones. They would be way ahead of the competition.

Imo stay away.

A 20mp camera can take worse shots than a good VGA camera if the drivers / software isn't up to scratch..

Who knows, it could be the best phone ever.. Or it could just be another of those "China Phones"

Until it gets some reviews atleast

The concept is nice (thanks for the link, never heard about it, didn't knew it excisted!) but this comment below really hits the nail on the head:

DVB-T (for use in: USA, Canada), +24,99€

Er guys, The yanks don't use DVB-T. They use ATSC.

3,5 mm Audio-Out, +4,99€

FM Radio, +4,99€

Mini-HDMI Out, +14,99€

And these outputs that I don't tick - do you have a different case for people with 3.5mm jack but no HDMI vs. no 3.5mm jack but HDMI, or neither, or both?

It seems too good to be true to me - I'm going to call vapourware. Espcially given it's likeness to HTC's HD phones.

I like the customisation options - would be interesting to spec up a phone like you do a PC.

The OSF was (I assume) subsidised by Orange so it's price is slightly unfair as a comparison with other devices but it was the key to selling it to me and most others here, I'd imagine.

Still though if I get to grips with Android and decide it's really got something going for it I might well decide that I'd be prepared to spend iPhone prices on my next phone and if so I'd like something with a similar range of options.

Interesting concept, but for a developer it must be a nightmare!

Imagine the custom roms, for those with wifi but only 5mp camera, without wifi with 12mp, with 4g but no wifi etc etc etc.

Personally I am hoping my next phone (after the sanfran) will be greater than 1ghz.

The whole customization concept seems like a joke

My wife has a Samsung Galaxy S, I have an iPhone, just got an SF for teen daughter - I'm no expert or power user but I think we were conned, compared to what the SF does for <£100 the others aren't that much better. I've replaced the firmware with the modaco rom, with HTC style "Fancy Widget" on home page - it looks soo cool.

I too call this one as vapourware atm. Until I am proven wrong lol.

Many people in their blog agree too.
