using the stock control at the mo but would like one with 3g on if anybody could recommend one please?

do you want to control data on/off or 2g/3g switch.

switch pro widget, quick settings and many others can switch data on/off

jst search for 2g3g in the market for a widget shortcut to the settings area where you can specify 2g or 3g. no widget or app is available to switch between them.

If anyone have tried either on their SF can they report if it works or not?

I am also looking for a better Power Control Widget.

Switch Pro (99c seems to have the higher rating) but both apps seem to have people reporting various bits do not work on their phone so any first hand reports would be great?

I'm using Power Control Plus, works great for me so far, I've had no problems.

Is there anything specific you want me to test?

1+ for switchpro.

Saw it in the Framework Factory V2 thread. Nice to be able to edit its looks and the buttons you use. I'm constantly using the mobile network, wifi and gps buttons.
