What happens if you purchase something from the market?

I am considering purchasing a few apps from the market but would like to know what happens:

1. How do you pay - do you have to use Google Checkout?

2. Can you backup applications you have bought?

3. If you reinstall your phone are purchased apps associated with your account so you can download without paying again?

1. Yes you use Google Checkout.

2. No idea, sorry! But if you delete it you can get it again without paying!

3. It is linked with you're Google Account so if you get another Android phone you can sign in and get the same app without paying again!

i had to do a re-install of the phone as i was messing with apps2ds

if you sync with appbrain all yor apps paid and free are there

after you sync you get the option to install apps brilliant

Well that was a helpful answer to a question loaded with two opposing positions. I believe the correct response should be no, you don't have to pay for the latest version, and yes you get it free.
