I am using stock Orange 2.1 using Vodafone sim. The reception and signal quality is fine but in call quality is awful its so hard to hear anyone - when compared to my last phone Nokia 5800 which is light years ahead of this in call quality do I have a duff phone or is this the general call quality of the San Fran?

Mine is fine. (I happened to hear the message I left on someone's answering machine, so I know its fine.)

At least as good as a Nokia 5530 I had.

It does seem to pick up background noise quite well though.

However, have you seen pages 20/21 of the manual?

I had a Nokia 5800 before too and I would say there's no noticeable difference in call quality with this phone. Sounds like there might be something wrong with yours.

Likewise, although i thought the 5800's call quality was never particularly good in the 1st place

On the SF, I have no difficulty hearing the other side, but the first couple of times I used it, I was troubled with hearing the phone over the noise around me. Maybe it wasn't natural to hold it so that background noise is excluded - possibly due to being thinner than the Nokia. But the phone's own audio quality (both ways) is just fine.

I too come from a Nokia 5800 and I actually prefer SanFran's call quality. Very clear and crisp.
