I am thinking of selling my Streak and buying one of those new Desire HDs everybody is talking about. However i am still quite reluctant.Does anybody have this phone and if so what do they think of it so far?

Don't have it but from what I've read the battery life sucks eggs.

Smaller screen as well.

On the plus side it is more portable.

The main differences would be

1. Screen size. I love the 5 inch screen. I dont think i can go any below now.

2. Support - Desire HD will have plenty of developer support as, I am sure user base will be much larger than streak .

Streak is probably the worst promoted phone. I have not seen a single person who knew about streak. ANybody who sees my streak are awed and surprised that such a handset exists. Many wants to get streak after they saw mine.

Loads of people are surprised at the size of mine as well.........

If anything I would be more likely to go slightly bigger Samsung Tab or the proposed Dell 7 incher . (need to see nd hold one first)

Streak currently feels like the best size to portability compromise... though a 6 incher might be cool!

I've got to admit, I'm one click away from ordering the Archos 101.....

The Streak is a superb phone and I cannot now imagine a phone below 5 inches but I hope that the next 5 incher from anyone should have a hummingbird processor.

I would also like to add that the Desire HD has a Qualcomm 8255 which seems like a beast as far as GPU is compared when compared with the Streak but I am not that much of a gamer on the Streak, I have a PSP for that and I don't think Gaming can be done on a touchscreen and by gaming I mean real games and not Angry Birds :)

That depends on your definition of ‘portable’.

My previous phone was an iPhone and all of the pockets that I used to carry my iPhone also accommodate the Streak.

So in my usage there is absolutely no portability disadvantage.

That being so and all things considered, I can see little merit in having a smaller screen than 5”.

I have checked out the alternatives in the shops, iPhone4 , Galaxy, Desire, etc. and promptly put them down again as being uninteresting. At this moment the Streak rules supreme.

But then only me and about 50 other people in the world think so. :)

Hi all,

Well i won't be swapping my Streak for a Desire HD as firstly as mentioned the battery life doesn't even come close to the Streaks and thats with a smaller screen to and whilst on the subject of screens i was in an 02 shop on Friday and looked at the WP7 HD7 which apparently has the same screen as the Desire HD and the Streaks screen is in a different class quality wise. I found the HD7 screen to be quite dull in comparison as it just wasn't as bright or crisp as the Streaks i also compared the Streaks screen to an iPhone4's and besides the huge difference is size i was most surprised that i just couldn't see what people are raving about on the iPhone4 as not only did it not blow me away it really didn't impress me at all when compared to the Streaks screen. I also checked that all the devices had the brightness setting on maximum so as to make it a fair comparison as for the other alleged advantages of the Desire HD well i really don't think the slight improvements in the processor or GPU are that important to me as i never play games on my device at all and am also not that concerned about the mobile Dolby or SRS as I'm more than happy with the quality of sound my Streak delivers.

I must be one of the 50, or maybe it should be 51?

I agree, this thing is perfect and fits in any pocket I want to stick it in.

I sold an iPhone after I got this, it'll be a cold day in hell before I go back to the Job's world of authoritarian communications.

Wish Dell would get a clue and market it though, as another poster stated I get asked what it is when I first show it to someone then the next question is invariably "where can I get one?".

They'd make a killing if they'd just start actually selling it instead of just releasing it.

Loving my Streak - I've tried most of the top end phones like a lot of people here.

I started on Android with the G1 on it's forst day of release.

Then went to

HTC Hero

Nexus 1

Desire

Galaxy S

Dell Streak

This size is perfect, I have no issues using it as an everyday phone.

However, I have just ordered my Archos 101 tonight hopefully it'll arrive Wednesday! :)

whats the point of buying something so big such as the Archos or iPad and then limiting yourself to a phone OS

if im gonna carry something that big might as well have WIN7 on it and do it properly

The size issue has really been blown up a lot. Also dell's initial product launch was calling streak a tablet. They should have called it a mobile phone with tablet features.

The phone fits in every pocket my iphone 3gs fits ( except for ofcourse the case :) ) and eventhough there is a weight difference i dont feel it though.

I have just checked this out, I took my eye off the ball with Archos as i got a bit confused as to what they were doing.

This looks amazing. And a bargain too.

I am not sure if modaco would mind but I would love an update on your impressions.

Enjoy Wednesday.

desire hd has better hardawe minus small screen :)

I was considering a Desire HD, but the battery life is a real deal breaker for me. Maybe much later down the line I might consider it if it becomes available with Japanese cellular bands (currently my reception is so-so because I can only use the 2.1 ghz band, meaning I am missing out on the building-penetrating and rural bands).

Portability is different on the Streak compared to other phones, though. You certainly can't confdently hold and manipulate it one-handed like smaller handsets. Its not too huge an issue for me considering the benefit of having a huge screen, but I certainly didn't anticipate developing so much 'jostle anxiety' over it.

The point is mostly that running Win7 those tablets only get about 3 hrs of life... running Android or iOS is more like 8-12 hrs.

Windows, as an operating system, has too much going on to be battery-friendly. This is why we have WinMo, WP7, and all the compact/embedded editions of windows; they are stripped down to run better in small or battery-powered environments.
