Guest Richard_Arkless Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Hi I have the oportunity of getting this phone either for my birthday (7th November) or for christmas but im wondering should I wait? I ask this question as is there going to be another phone that competes with this phone before these dates, so far ive been looking around and this is the only one which is around the £100 and is worth the money Oh and another question how have you lot lived with the lack of a trackball, atm I got a tmobile pulse and I use my trackball a fair bit? Guest jimmy2x2x Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I hope there is some fierce competition around the £100 mark, but afaik there isn't anything else on the horizon with similar specs. I don't miss a trackball as this is my first smartphone, but I do miss having a real DPAD with a couple of buttons - just can't get into touchscreen controls :) Good Luck!
Guest Richard_Arkless Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Ok thanks, the only things im worrying about atm is how much support zte will give us in terms of updates, like with the pulse I had to wait 4-5 months before 2.1 was even released, I know that 2.2 will likely be released but what about 2.3 (if that is gingerbread)
Guest magicpork Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 tbh, can't see any phone in the horizon that can compete SF in terms of the value, you may have to wait for another few month.. ZTE is like HTC a few years back, although it is growing rapidly i doubt it can provide excellent support yet (not they don't want to).. but an active community may fill the gap just fine :)
Guest Frankish Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I have a HTC Desire and i dropped it in my drink a while ago. It works but my trackpad is dead. I don't really miss it :)

I've read that the HTC Wildfire is good and Vodaphone are doing it for £140 However, this is £50 more than I paid.
Guest tabor56 Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 only competitors that are coming are huawei ideos and lg optimus. none of those have better specs than blade but have 2.2
Guest Richard_Arkless Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 ok thanks everyone im gonna continue looking and ill probably have it for christmas, this will give me enough time to choose the phone
Guest quails Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 ok thanks everyone im gonna continue looking and ill probably have it for christmas, this will give me enough time to choose the phone Anything ready for Christmas will be out in the next couple of weeks at the latest, but they're normally hyping them well before, so doubt you'll see anything to compare with the san fran at sub £150 this Christmas. At some point you've got to decide that you'll get the best thats currently available - remember telling my daughter not to replace an OK nokia last year because there would be good iphone-like smartphone at £100 over the next year or so - and I was right, the san fran is it. Just don't buy if you want a good camera, not that great and long delay before it takes it, but man the screen is big and BEAUTIFUL ! If you want a poxy screen and good camera - HTC wildfire is the definitely the one right now. Huawei ideos also has a low res poxy screen like Wildfire (but without a good camera). Which Optimus are you referring to ? Glad I got her the SF ... tempted to get one for myself (I already have an iphone !!).

So am I tempted, my sister has the san francisco and when I was setting it all up I was amazed at how fast and how the screen looked but I wasnt sure if there was a phone over the corner which is comparable to the san francisco specs wise for around the same price, if there isnt a phone that compares to the san francisco then I will get it The camera is ok better than the pulse ill probably keep my pulse as my testing phone which I will be testing all the latest stuff like 2.2 on Edited October 31, 2010 by Richard_Arkless
Guest mELIANTE Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 If you wait for the next one you'll never buy a phone. There might be always something around the corner...

Guest cliche guevara Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 I miss the trackpad, for me it's the biggest downfall of this phone. It seems like most top end android phones have ommitted the trackpad these days, but I find correcting text incredibly difficult and time consuming without it.
Guest DaveyP Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 correcting text incredibly difficult meybe speeling better or sumthink will help
Guest cliche guevara Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 meybe speeling better or sumthink will help Thanks for the helpful suggestion but my dyslexia makes it a struggle and I check all text before I post. Obviously I still make mistakes.
Guest ddotpatel Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 ..... Obviously I still make mistakes. Don't we all? I think that is the only thing I am going to miss when my Hero gets replaced,.... The only other solution I can think of to help myself is maybe using the full qwerty in landscape? ... Or maybe trying Swype or something similar again. Hmmm....
