Unlocked New San Francisco but no O2 phone signal showing

Guys can anyone help me out?

I've just bought an Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) and got it unlocked using a code from Ebay, the code has worked. I then did a factory reset but I cannot get any network signal using a new O2 3G sim card. I've actually tried my own working O2 3G sim card too and that won't work in the San Francisco either.

Edit: I should point out that the Orange sim card does get a signal. (Also tried 3 O2 sim cards now, no signal on any of them).

For my Tesco Mobile sim I had to manually add an APN (Access Point Name) for data.

Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names :

APN (contract): wap.o2.co.uk

APN (PAYG): payandgo.o2.co.uk

Server : 193.113.200.195

Username : o2wap (contract) / payandgo (PAYG)

Password: password

Session type: Continuous / permanent

Authentication: Normal

Security: Off

Port number: 8080

Note the two choices for the APN, depending on your sim type.

Thanks for the reply.

I may not have explained the problem very well, after I insert an O2 sim card, there is no signal at all from O2 (phone signal). I've tried 3 different O2 sim cards (which work fine here in other phones).

It sounds like the unlock (possibly) hasn't worked, seeing as the Orange SIM receives a signal.

It's a strange one, I entered the unlock code and it was accepted the first time round. It's not asking for the code now with the O2 sim in place. I've factory reset the phone 2 or 3 times now, that hasn't made any difference to the problem.

After I unlocked my phone, I somehow managed to re-insert the SIM upside down and it took me about ten minutes to work out why I wasn't getting a signal.

May be worth checking that you haven't been as dumb as I was! :)

I wish it was just that, checked and triple checked. :)

The problem I have is that I've bought this phone from the Orange store in HMV, they will exchange (but not refund) the phone within 28 days if it's faulty. The phone isn't faulty with an Orange sim in it, I simply can't get any phone signal at all with any my O2 sims.

I seemed to have had the same problem today, i took my 02 sim out to put in another phone so i could receive a good mms picture, but when i put it back in to the sf it wouldn't give any signal, and said sim not inserted, i put an orange sim in and it worked fine. So i took out the orange sim and put the 02 sim back in but no luck, i the took out battery and 02 sim, I inserted the 02 sim again, then waited about 30 sec and replaced the battery and managed to get a signal. Don't know if it will be any use to you but just thought it might work if it did for me.

When you entered the unlock code did it say 'Network Unlock Successful'?

Thanks again for the replies.

I tried the sim/battery thing but no difference. I can't remember if I got the 'Network Unlock Successful' message, as I was doing other stuff at the same time. It seemed to go ok.

I've been outside and 'searched for networks' and briefly saw O2 but it vanished just as quickly, I also saw 3 UK and Orange. I've just had the Orange sim back in and the signal (which was quite low anyway) also disappeared leaving no network signal. I'm beginning to think there's a fault with the antenna.

I think you could still argue it as faulty. But isn't there 7 or 14 days cooling off period with ANY electronic equipment? So say it works fine, you just changed your mind... or have you gone over 14 days already? Check with trading standards.

EDIT.... Had a read up,... No cooling off period unfortunately. So if you need to return it I think arguing faulty is the way to go.

The phone was bought new today. On the invoice which we had to sign, it states that there's a no refund policy, but that this doesn't affect statutory rights?

The phone signal with the Orange sim does vanish indoors so I'm going to tell them that there's some issue with the antenna, I do actually think that there must be. Hopefully I'll get an exchange unit, unlock it and will see how that goes. If I still have the same problem and as I can't get a refund, I may as well look at flashing a non-Orange rom and see if that improves the situation. The thought of flashing a rom gives me the shivers! :-)

Oh yeah, on some Heros the stock OrangeROM had to be replaced for network unlock codes to work.

But I think take it back for an exchange first to be sure it is not a hardware fault,... Tell them you had a friends Orange handset next to yours where you had zero and they had full reception.

Let me know how this pans out, I'm hoping to get me one to replace my Hero soon once I've had time to go to a shop to get a feel of it, also on O2.

They will only refund under SOGA if there is a fault with it and 14 days is a distance selling regulation that doesn't apply through a store.

Can you get another SIM- Vodafone, Virgin, T-Mobile see what difference that makes?

I don't have any other non O2 sims to try, but coincidently we've had 3 friends visit today and all are with Orange, they all had a signal albeit a low signal.

Are there any notification messages in the tray that relate to network issues? If there is then it usually displays the notification together with the network its trying to connect to? Could still be trying to connect to Orange? If you've not tried you can do an auto network rescan?

I had this problem,

it turned out NOT to be unlocked, it takes the O2 sim and LOOKS like it's unlocked but its not

Get Vodafone sim, put it in and it will ask for the unlock code, put the code in and unlock it properly, then the O2 sim will work fine.

I discovered that out after hours of pulling my hair out wondering what was wrong, and tried the Voda sim as a last measure

That's interesting, I wonder why it doesn't work with the O2 sim straight away? I've just come home with a replacement handset, now waiting for the unlock code to arrive.

Wish me luck! :)

Right I have my unlock code but I only have an O2 sim to unlock with, I'm presuming that there are others here who unlocked using an O2 sim?

Worked fine with my O2 PAYG sim card with Unlock code from nckcodes.

Make sure it is 3G sim - I think in the last 4 digits printed on the sim card should say 3G if it is a 3G one?

Not sure what else to suggest.
