Guest 5867dude Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Doubt it, almost all San Francisco's have been unlocked, and they are probably loosing money on every sale, hoping to make it back from Top-Ups, but obviously that hasn't been the case. If you were Orange, would you make another unprofitable phone?

Guest magicpork Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) at least every phone still says Orange on its back.... Edited October 31, 2010 by magicpork
Guest xeyaztian Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I hope they do, I'm sure they'll do one that looks the same but Id rather have a better version of the SF in a years time, but I do doubt the majority of everyday people have unlocked it though.
Guest Sasimikun Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 A provider should rebrand the Huawei IDEOS X5 and release it during or just before Christmas, for around ~200€. Massive sales guaranteed. T-Mobile Pulse HD/2 anyone? More info on the X5: http://www.gsmarena.com/froyodriven_huawei...d-news-2024.php (X6 is too high end, if it's ever released in Europe. It will probably cost around the 300€ mark.
Guest bagge Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I doubt it too, it has to be subsidized by a fair bit. But can always hope. :)
Guest ezablade Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Just because Orange may have got their fingers burned, no reason why ZTE won't go to Vodafone, 3 or O2 and say, look, this sold loads, and the owners are on your networks, do you want to buy our newer version???

If you were Orange, would you make another unprofitable phone? What a perplexing post you have made. :) How can they lose money on every sale? Are you saying Orange paid more than £99 per unit? Well let me tell you something, they didn't. They are making profit with every sale because they paid less than £99 per unit. They're not making a loss with every sale. There wouldn't be a business if they did that. Potential profit and downright loss are two very different things mate.

They usually cover £15-£30 of the cost, and intend to get it back via top ups. Its why phone prices vary from network to network. Wiki link, read the second paragraph. They will have factored unlocking into the price, sure some of us will have unlocked our sf and moved it to a new network, but a larger proportion of their sf customers wont know what unlocking, modding etc are.

In almost every other case I'd agree with you, but a huge amount of San Francisco owners heard about the phone through HUKD, which has a five thousand post long thread about how easy it is to unlock the phone, and install a custom ROM. I reckon a much higher percentage of SF owners have unlocked than Orange were budgetting for.
