First of all to get into fastboot mode, you must do the following all while the streak is NOT connected via usb: 1. Enter bootloader mode by pressing and holding the camera button immediately after powering on the streak (in 2.1 or pressing and holding the camera button while powering on the streak in 1.6). 2. Touch the 'Fastboot' text to enter fastboot mode. 3. Plug in the dell streak via usb and the screen should change to saying 'FASTBOOT MODE'. So, at which point are you having a problem? If you are doing anything different to get into fastboot mode, you are doing it wrong.
Guest XsCode Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 But it will not go into FASTBOOT MODE on windows without the adb driver being installed please let him try going through the guide before telling him he is doing it wrong... Guest Wee Thomas Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 But it will not go into FASTBOOT MODE on windows without the adb driver being installed please let him try going through the guide before telling him he is doing it wrong... I never installed adb drivers. Windows 7 found all the drivers it needed on its own. If he tells us which step he's having problems with, we can figure out whether it is driver related or something else. Oh and yes, if he is trying something other than what I outlined to get into fastboot mode, then he IS doing it WRONG. You should know that.
Guest XsCode Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Well you are one of the few... I ran Windows 7 x64 and had to jump through hoops to get the drivers installed. Just because something worked for you on your system, doesn't mean it will work that way for all configurations. You are right that we need to know where he is going wrong, but we don't have that information yet so can't assume that it is him that is doing it wrong and not his setup that is different from the norm. Read my post again. I never made the assumption he's doing anything wrong. I said that EITHER something went wrong with one of the steps OR he is doing something wrong. There is no other option for what is going on. Oh, and if his setup is a Windows 3.1 machine, he is doing it wrong. I'm starting to think I overestimated just how much you understand about how this all works. . .
Guest adzman808 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 when connected to windows, whats does the dell streak appear as in device manager (when in fast boot mode)? if it has a yellow ! symbol then this is the most likely casue of the problem The guide, linked earlier in this thread will help you cheers
Guest XsCode Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 How arrogant of you! I don't claim to be an expert by any means, but I've installed most of the 2.2 releases as beta's before most other ppl on here knew they existed, all without many problems and most notably without any help other than from the search box on this forum. I'm starting to think I overestimated just how much you understand about how this all works. . .
Guest adzman808 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 no offence guys, but the argument is not helping davesanchez (OP) so much, no?

Guest adzman808 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) got the yellow symbol in device manager having problems updating driver have downloaded android sdk phone just says wait for usb fastboot detect.... I've never installed sdk (in fact i dont really know what it is....) i only have a neanderthal level of comprehension of the process - but as i understand it - if the streak isn't correct in device manager then it wont work... a guy called Rob Powell* wrote the doc i've attached - i'll assume he don't mind me posting it... when i followed it, it wasn't 100% how my own set up looked, but was close enough to get me there.... i've used 2 PCs to upgrade the streak, my xp work one & my win7 one, (surprisingly w7 worked better) you've prob read this already - in which case apologies for the duplication good luck bud *according to the doc properties, my sincere apologies if i've credited the wrong personWhat_you_need_to_know_about_the_Dell_Streak___PDF.pdf Edited November 4, 2010 by adzman808
