Hi everyone, I just want to know if it's possible to replace a phone screen with another from a different model/maker but of the same size/resolution/technology. My SF screen broke and i want to experiment on it since there are no replacement parts available anywhere.

I guess you'd have to take it apart and find out :) I would probably take the screen out and ask a local phone repairer if they know of a similar and try it.

But obviously, you risk wrecking it forever.

I guess you'd need to compile your own ROM/kernel then with the respective drivers etc.

But theoretically it should work, I assume the connections are standardized.

Yeah hopefully,I've managed to disassemble it and remove the screen, which is quite hard as it is literally glued with a part that connects the 3 buttons and speaker board to the rest of the board). Other than that it's a quite easy procedure. After that i put it back together except for the screen which I left out, it works ok as I managed to play mp3s(it's a good thing I remember where the widget was. :) ).

Apart from that I called samsung(as it's got samsung writen on the back of the screen part) and asked if it's possible to get a replacement screen somewhere or if they do repairs. I was then told about a service centre near my area(Aberdeen,Woodside). I hope the tech guy understood about what phone I was talkin about. Anws, I'll go for a search tmr and see what happens as i'm curious to see how much they charge for repair or replacement part.

Let us know about the outcome. While it may be impractical due to effort being so high and the phone 's price so low, it will satisfy my curiosity. :)

Well the guy at the service centre said they couldn't take it for a repair cause it has been tampered with, but considering on their website the prices for repairs are from 44 to 100+ pounds its a waste, and I imagine they would have to send it to zte or samsung to get it repaired which would increase the price even more. If a compatible screen appears on ebay or another site i'll consider trying to fix it,until then i'll have to pack it or try selling on ebay.:)

One of our guys had his iphone screen replaced by an independent, it cost £80 from memory, he would have been better buying a sf but the iphone was a present.

If by independent you mean one of those street shops that also do unlocks unfortunately i've tried a few and they don't fix or sell parts of the SF, they told me it was a relatively new model so they didn't have parts. Of course this is in aberdeen,i don't know for other cities. When i checked them about unlocking they said they couldn't do it cause it's new, but I found a number of sites that offered unlock codes, so I guess they kind of suck.:)

imo best thing would be to either sell it on ebay or put it in a drawer and wait until the first broken sf's turn up on ebay
