How to stop more than 3 messages turning to MMS?

I was sending a SMS (turned to 3 messages long) but as soon as it hit 3, it converted to a MMS (that's what it said on the screen). How can I prevent this from happening?

The only solution I have found is to use Handcent SMS. Pretty decent software, it must be said.

Other than splitting the message yourself and sending it in different parts then no - it's built into Android - and really really annoying!

Try Handcent SMS as I've heard reports that this doesn't convert to MMS - untested by me though.

I am afraid to use Handcent SMS. I did have it installed before and really liked the features. However, when I went to delete a few messages (batch mode, then ticking a few messages then clicking delete), it actually deleted all of my inbox. Someone mentioned that's what it does usually but I have to disagree because it was working fine before that. I even tried testing it again, and it did the same thing. So whether that was a faulty time or not, I don't want to go back to it in case it delets all my messages again as I like to keep some of them.

I hope someone can come up with a fix or something so it doesn't charge me.

I seem to think I may have read somewhere that the messaging App in Froyo allows >3 multi-part SMS messages? Not sure if this is actually the case or not as I'm willing to wait for a Beta Froyo version rather than try one of the current Alpha ROMs!
