Guest Grayo20 Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Hi All, I have recently purchased an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000. when I turn it on it shows a Vodafone logo on start-up, i'm on Orange pay as you go, and was wondering if there was any way to remove the Vodafone logo from the phone, or is it something i'm going to have to put up with. Many thanks Grayo20
Guest richardj Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Hi, Did you buy the phone new or is it second hand, if second hand it came from vodfone originally.
Guest Grayo20 Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Hi, Did you buy the phone new or is it second hand, if second hand it came from vodfone originally. Hi, Yes I bought it second hand, it was new and had never been used. I think it was an upgrade, but the person selling decided to sell it instead of using it. So I guess it must have been a Vodafone upgrade. I take it I can not remove the logo then Doh. Thanks Grayo20
Guest richardj Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Sounds like it was an upgrade. I'm sure I read some where on one of the forums about removing start up logos, give XDA developers a try. I think you might be able to do it by rooting the phone, which will give you access to the files on the phone you can't normally see. It might be worth waiting until the froyo update, then root the phone. We are supposed to be getting Froyo this month all being well. Let me know how you get on. you can PM

I have not got a clue about XDA Developers, Rooting the phone, or Froyo updates :( . I think I had better have a look around the forum and try and pick-up some knowledge of all the things you have mentioned in your post LOL :) Many thanks Grayo20
Guest richardj Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Your in for a lot of fun with this phone. XDA is another forum and like this forum is full of advice, tips and tricks. Rooting the phone just means, you can do a lot more with it. At the moment you phone is probably running eclair 2.1 update 1 which is the firmware version, to find out, go to settings>about phone, down at the bottom, under build number it will say ECLAIR.I9000XXJM1 (the last 2 letters and 1 number are what mine says, but yours my be different) Froyo is the next firmware version, to get the official samsung froyo version you will need to have samsung kies installed on your PC, make sure you have the latest version. one other thing, you will need to set you phone to ask which type of connection you require, go to settings>about phone>USB settings> and select ask on connection, by setting it like this, when you connect the phone to your PC, the phone will ask you which mode you want to connect in> samsung kies>mass storage>media player>PC internet, if you are using kies select samsung kies ect.

Ok, Thanks Richard. Checked my firmware version, it's Eclair.19000BUJG2. I have Samsung Kies installed on my PC, and I have set the phone to Ask on Connection. Now going to look for the XDA forum. Now the fun begins :) Many thanks Grayo20
