Guest adzman808 Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 didn't get an answer to this by searching.... so when some clever cloggs tells it's already been covered, then flame away... anyways, if one were to buy a double ended female usb cable (if such a creature exists !!) can i plug my usb mem stick or my portable hdd or even my digi cam straight into the streak in short, does the streak have usb host support? Cheers guys
Guest popetodd Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) I short yes. People have been successful in hooking up external drives so it does have host support of some kind. Now about your camera, that would require drivers so it's not really a matter of host support there as much as a USB driver for web cams. Edited November 2, 2010 by popetodd
Guest adzman808 Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 sorry just to clarify, if i get a double ended femaile usb cable then i'm in business? re the camera, i'll just take the sd card out & put it in a usb adaptor :) Thanks :)
Guest popetodd Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 That is the accepted method. Some people are using the usb port on the home dock as well. Don´t know why you´d use an sd adapter if there is already a working host port, not to mention that it does nothing about needing a usb driver for the usb camera regardless.
Guest Alkiera Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 If the camera supports USB mass storage, it should be fine to just plug it in. Most Windows/MacOS machines support all the fancy photo import stuff by noting the presence of a DCIM folder.

Guest adzman808 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 UPDATE having now been spoon fed some more info on this, i see that it's not easily going to work I'll update this (as the OP) but please see http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-str...r-mod-tutorial/ as the guys with the know how have explained it there. In short This is not going to work The F to F usb adaptor i've ordered will do sweet fa i'd need to pull apart the OEM dell cable & bridge 2 pins in oder for the cable to support usb hosting this can't be done on the F to F adaptor as the necessary internal wiring doesn't run to the (std) USB end of the cable Once the OEM cable has been modified in this way THEN the F to F adaptor would work... but not before the streak has had a mount point created using ADB or busybox Personally (although i can soilder) i won't be potentially ruining a £30 cable (of which i don't have a spare) I'm also (with my current skill set) uncomfortable with the ADB part of this install. Still only my TG01 winmo phone that does host support outta the box... shame. & shame on Dell - how the F can u market something as a tablet PC that doesn't host USB devices I understand that this is easier to accomplish using the home dock kit, which costs less than double that of the stand alone cable (ie if i'm gonna spend £30 on a cable, then might as well spend £40-odd on the dock) thank F the adaptor i bought cost only £1.20 :) i hate wasting money, unless its beer :) Thanks to all that helped me ~ very much appreciated
Guest TheRain Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Yah true~ the method to get mass storage devices to work can be found here http://linuxslate.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1286562168
