Guest Sere83 Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I installed Sebastian's R5 when the battery was Low. I now can only manage about 13 hrs of light use (most of that time is idle). I tried re calibrating the battery, made no difference. Exactly the same thing happened to my last san fran. Is there really nothing I can do? Why am I the only one getting such poor battery results? Why is there no way to fix this? Would going back to the stock rom help?

I think the thing about installing a rom when the battery is low causing problems is a myth, I've done the same, I've wiped battery stats etc at different charge levels and it's not made an obvious difference. You could try charging fully then using clockwork to wipe battery stats but like I say I haven't noticed a difference.
Guest igors_s Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 a dealbreaker for me was 3G. i turned it of ('use 2g networks only' setting) and now the phone looses around 1-2% battery overnight instead of 30-40%. charges quicker and lasts considerably longer. And that's with data on all the time. Data connection is still there, just not as fast or snappy as 3g. more than enough for email, light browsing and google talk. There a couple of other tricks you can use like limiting your processor speed when idle, and shutting down additional services at certain parts of the day. I'll try few things and report back later.
Guest andy mc Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I have to agree, since turning off 3G (2G only networks) I have seen a big improvement in my battery life. After struggling to get beyond 8 hours of usage I now get 1-2 days. Menu> Settings> Wireless & Networks> Mobile Networks> Use only 2G networks (tick option to on: green tick)

I really wish I understood why there is such a large discrepancy with some people saying they get as little as 8hrs and some saying they get 35 to 40 with 3g on! Someone is talking crap. Or the custom roms are eating battery much faster than stock roms or certain models are faulty. This all makes absolutely no sense to me. Edited November 3, 2010 by Sere83
Guest MIKEYMC Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I turn everything off and only turn on wifi or 3g when I need it. Battery life is alot better.

I think you could just about get 35 hours out of it but that must be top end. I have the Desire too which also chews battery, but Wi-fi is the deal breaker there. I notice little difference with the custom ROMs but I do note that the battery % seems to jump a bit- suddenly from 80% to 67% for example.
Guest mrbez Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 It's all about the signal strength. If I'm at home it barely drops, over a weekend I get 2x the battery life compared to work (with poor signal).
Guest Azurren Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) Imho you buy a smart phone so you can be kept synced with everything (email, social networks, weather, news etc.) And with every other smart phone you pay the price of having to re-charge every night. Don't you think that switching everything off rarther defeats the point of having a smart phone? :) But turning 3g off is a must, it doesn't effect syncing and can easily be turned back on for browsing Edited November 4, 2010 by Azurren
Guest MIKEYMC Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Mine syncs, when I turn 3g on. Where I work its against the law to have my phone out or on my desk. So theres no point 3g running until I can look at it at lunch time. I'm on giffgaff so its unlimited internet, but I'm more than likely going to play angry birds all lunch time :)
Guest eyespy (aka Steve) Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 I might be having delusions but I'm sure that since installing 'Adfree Android' from the market my battery life has imporoved.
Guest Sere83 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 When I had no custom roms on my phone, afer 20 minutes of stopwatch timeing and the rest of the time idle it dropped 1 bar after 7hrs. After installing Sebastians R5 rom its significantly worse. I receive one 15 minute call or do 20 minutes stop watch and it drops 1 bar. How do you explain this? I thought it was because I installed the Rom on low battery. Since then I even re calibrated the battery and wiped cache in clockwork, made absolutely no difference. I agree having to turn 3g off is annoying. When I want to use it it takes time to reconnect.

Use a battery % widget :) I recommended "Battstatt" Edited November 4, 2010 by Azurren
