Stock android keyboard (Autocomplete/Autosuggest)

I've done a quick search on the forum, so sorry if this has come up before.

Does anyone know why the stock Android keyboard does not auto suggest/complete words as you are typing. Is this an option turned off by default? I can't seem to find an option to turn it on. Any help would be appreciated. (Running stock 2.1 Orange ROM, and stock Android keyboard)

Same problem here.. wouldn't want to change the keyboard for anything but the autocomplete\autosuggest feature!

I was wondering about this myself. I've already replaced my keyboard now anyway but I think I would've been happy with the stock keyboard had the autocomplete feature been there.

Is the stock keyboard supposed to do predictive text ?
